For those of you looking to work out/get in shape/punish yourself during lent, I've been doing the 300 workout once a week (along with other workouts) since getting back to Champaign. The name is a reference to both the movie, since many of the actors were training by performing this workout, and the number of reps. Here it is:

25 pull-ups
50 dead lifts at 135 lbs
50 push ups
50 base jumps at 24 inches
50 floor wipes holding 135 lbs
50 single arm clean and jerks with 35 lbs in each hand
25 pull-ups

The goal is to finish the workout as quickly as possible, doing as few sets as possible (hopefully, only one set per exercise, although I've never seen anyone actually do this.) The great thing about the exercise is that both bigger in shape guys and smaller in shape guys struggle with it; I can fly through the pull-ups and push-ups, usually giving only 2 sets for the pull-ups and one for the pushups, while struggling with the deadlifts and clean and jerks; big guys will be exactly the opposite. Because it's fast, it is also an aerobic workout. And it also manages to work out just about every muscle in the body.

I'm going to post pictures in a couple of weeks showing the improvements I've made. But I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking to break through a workout barrier or board with what they are currently doing.

Balderdash. I just watched a 56 year old Swede deadlift 661 pounds 9 times.

I love strongman competitions.

Is this some kind of euphemism for something?
...like I'm gonna go deadlift the Swede, if you know what I mean

I'll pass on the floor wipes - I'd rather be alive and grotesquely out of shape than risk death.

I thought that was a workout for people weighing 300 lbs. I can still clean and jerk, but the rest is out.

I think Beef would enjoy spotting Irish Boy.

Huh. When I do it, it's usually jerk first, clean after.

48 minutes today. Goal is to have it under 30 by May. The first time I tried it in November, I got halfway through, left the gym, and promptly threw up. The first time I completed it, which was December, it took me 70 minutes. Some of the actors apparantly had it under 20.

this is insane. as much as i appreciate your posting it, i don't think i can do even 1 pull-up at this point, let alone 25. maybe i'll scratch that in favor of something else.

Start with a lat pulldown machine with a weight that makes you tap out after 25.

I have never been able to do a pull up for as long as I can remember. I'm terribly out of shape now, but even as a youngin at the playground I could never do one.

I was looking for something different and challenging for a workout..so I took this up. I also found another version called the 300 Home workout. Anyway...Tonight I did the version you posted...took me 72 minutes and I was wiped out at the end. I'm looking forward to working through it more & improving on time.
