It would require the Browns taking (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and 49ers taking Watson for both Mahomes and Kizer to not last until the second.

 So you are so off on your statement and you then return with this?

I've said all along the second round pick could work out well assuming there isn't a run on quarterbacks in the first round and early second. The odds are still much higher in drafting a quarterback higher that he will be good to great.

Quote:
If there is a run on quarterbacks in the first round after you pass on one at #3 you could really have no future and basically a year of waiting for the next qb to be drafted and then people will say next year "NO QUARTERBACK IS WORTH A FIRST ROUND PICK. LET'S GET A SAFETY WHO IS ONLY KNOWN BECAUSE HE RETURNED KICKS!".

Or..........they sign Glennon, draft Solomon or Adams at #3 then take a QB in the high second round and everything is fine (or as fine as everything can be). That's according to you.
"If there is a run on quarterbacks in the first round" is what you seem to have ignored. Ironically, now you are the one arguing that drafting any quarterback with a certain draft pick sets the amount of his potential which you called "nonsense" before.

Obviously it would be awesome if the Bears could get a top quarterback in the second round. It's a pretty big risk to hope that one of them ends up available in the second round.

I hope you are right but it seems possible to me that people could get anxious and go for QBs and all 4 would go in the first

The problem is the Browns and 49ers also have a second round pick ahead of the Bears. It's very likely they each draft a quarterback with one of those two picks.

It would not surprise me at all if (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, Watson, Kizer, and Mahomes are all gone by the time the Bears get the second round pick. So, the Bears are getting the fifth best or worse quarterback in a "bad qb draft".

Let the tampering begin.

Equipped with just under $52 million — a number that is expected to rise after cuts and once the Jay Cutler situation comes to a resolution — the Bears will be extremely active in this year's free agency market.

Bears GM Ryan Pace can officially put the pen to paper with free agents when the new league year begins at 3 p.m. on Thursday. Until then, CSN is tracking all the Bears' offseason rumors.

Check out the latest free agency news below:

10:53 a.m.: A deal between the Bears and free agent quarterback Mike Glennon is all but done, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal is expected to fall in the three-year, $45 million range.

The guaranteed money is all that matters but that sounds horrible.

SF may not pick a QB if they trade for Cousins, but that would probably just make the Skins draft one instead.

Browns hold two 1st round picks and a pick before the Bears in the 2nd. It's a lock they take a QB with one of those 3 picks imo

As for everyone saying Kizer might be there for the Bears -or anyone- in the 2nd.. wat? Most lists I've seen have him as the #1 QB in the draft. He's gone in the 1st most likely.

All that matters is the guaranteed dollars. If the guy is good $15m/year will be palatable to everyone.

'Get rid of Cutler' does not mean: 'and over pay and replace him with anyone', America.

Why? Jay is due 12.5 and another 2.5 for roster bonus, you want that turd for 15 million to play 9 games and play poorly, get hurt and he can't mentor a young QB he has no value.

I don't think you understand what I was saying. We know what Cutler is. He's average to below average and isn't the future of this team. If he stuck around while you were grooming the QB of the future it won't change much. Giving some Glennon $15M a year will set this franchise back much further than retaining Cutler for another year at the same price.

I personally wouldn't have either of them.

Would Cutler place nice with a QB drafted, say, in the 2nd round?

I would hope that Glennon gets like $1 million to go away in the offseason if the Bears want.

Otherwise this is a really bad move.

Apparently this exorbitant contract Glennon might well be getting has possibly gotten the attention of Rodgers up north who could then be looking for a wee bit of a pay raise in light of it.

Sorry Bears fans.

Whatever little rooting interest I had left has definitely escaped into the void.

Cutler doesnt help you win. Cutler causes you to rely on a 2nd or possible 3rd string qb. When Cutler does play he turns the ball over too much. The only season he's played a full 16 games with the Bears he led the league in turnovers. So basically Jay being on the field will not only cause your offense to suck it will put more pressure on your defense.

Jesus H Christ how are people still not seeing he's a horrible option. YOU DONT WANT JAY CUTLER ON YOUR TEAM.

Right! Why invest in a guy who is likely worse than Cutler?

Okay.

And how does any of that justify paying Glennon $15M a season?

Im not saying pay Glennon 15 a year. I dont want that. If they can take him at 10 thats ok but truly Ive seen more of Hoyer than Glennon and I'd rather have what I know than what I dont know. That being said and this is going sound crazy maybe but for the same cost I'd take Glennon over Cutler. I know Jay won't help you win and WILL help you lose. Can we say the same thing with Glennon with 100% certainty?

Bigg's article says 15mil per year only puts Glennon as the 23rd highest paid QB next year... So there much more palatable

I don't want to pay either. It's likely that he's worse than Cutler. Taking a chance on an unproven veteran isn't worth $15M a year. When you sign someone for that much money developing a rookie QB gets thrown out the window.
