It may be harder to justify not keeping Cutler though in this case. Cutler is good enough to hold off a rookie.

They are over the Cutler attitude.

They may hold onto him for a while though. Anybody who wants him will need to have him sooner rather than later to learn their system. Don't rule out the Jets just yet.

Expensive to do it but hopefully they can avoid a Goff situation.

You could have signed a Hoyer for a lot less and accomplished the same thing.
Hoyer sucks though. He's Case Keenum. Glennon may be a decent NFL starter.

You're looking for a bridge guy though. Hoyer sucking isn't a problem. Glennon isn't a franchise player and he isn't better than Cutler. We're looking for a franchise player and those aren't usually found in free agency.

Yes. Cutler has been an average to slightly above average QB. We needed him to be a franchise QB and he wasn't. Glennon couldn't beat out McCown who is a backup QB.

Wrong! What has Glennon ever done that says he's better than Cutler? What has he ever done that says he can be a franchise QB?

He finished a year with twice as many TD's as interceptions. Teammates don't hate him.

An no one is saying he is a franchise QB. They are saying he is better than Cutler for the same money.

Cutler is perhaps the worst QB in Bears history.

The "thought" on Glennon is that he actually performed well with a complete mess of an organization and that a change of scenery may result in him performing much better.

Now, he may suck and I'm not a big fan of how much guaranteed money he had but it wouldn't be the worst thing if he proved competent enough to let the rookie qb sit for a year or two.

If Pace is wrong about him though and he isn't at least average you may have to fire Pace at the end of the year.

Really? He's done nothing that says he's better than Cutler and he costs more. The point in all of this is to get a franchise guy.

Who says they aren't going to draft a QB? I don't think even right now the job is Glennon's, regime likes Shaw a lot. Finding a franchise guy could mean bringing in a bunch of guys and letting them compete for the spot in camp...something the Bears haven't allowed in earnest in a decade.

I don't think there is any chance the Bears give him 19 million guaranteed and he is not the starter, barring injury.

In both college and pro careers he has twice as many TDs as INTs.

There isn't a FA franchise QB. There usually never is. And this guarantees the Bears are not taking a QB at 3. They better hope whoever they take in round 2 or later is a good QB eventually.

I'm not thrilled with the money either but this is what a team has to do when they ignore the QB position.

So you give him 2 years at 9.5 or however it's broken down to see if he's anything and if not cut bait. Have to keep drafting QB's though.

Because how a team spends it's resources could determine how good that team will be short term and long term. MANY of us knew the Cutler contract was awful. It set the franchise back about 6 or 7 years. These things matter.

What bothers me is the Bears were reportedly scared off by the Gilmore contract demands. So did the already allocated Glennon money have something do to with it?

Bears have more than enough money to sign Gilmore and Bouye they just didn't. It has nothing to do with Glennon.
