My preferences are

1. B Donovan -- far and away the best choice if he will come -- still dont believe he will but would love to be wrong

2. G Marshall -- even with his crazy ass wife.

3. T Bennett

4. M White

5. A Miller

18. Alford

"Only" $5MM . I presume the Hoosiers and the frustrated fans have to be able to exceed that to attempt to match their belief that IU is still a preeminent program. At least I hope they will

I would hope so as well. I have read reports of their willingness to go 6-7 per year and the AD has said that money will not be a hindrance in getting the right person. But what else is he going to say?

Not this time around. He is someone that could be in the future. Rumors are he is in talks to be head coach at Duquene.

Didn't IU hire a search firm? Never a good sign. Will end up with some turd based on risk analysis.

Search firms are not really used to do the actual search but to make sure all thr the details of the contract and such are handled correctly.

Fife not taking the Duquesne offer. My guess is his sights are set higher.

Lots of speculation out there on Donovan and the Indiana job. The IU message boards have been going crazy.

This guy here is standing by this story on his website and on twitter.

Quote:
JUSTIN ALBERS has 10 years of experience in the sports journalism field, most recently covering Indiana University basketball and recruiting for Scout.com. He is the founder and editor of AlbersAngle.com, as well as the host and producer of The Justin Albers Podcast.

http://albersangle.com/sources-billy-do ... s-indiana/

Quote:
Sources: Billy Donovan Visits Indiana
March 24, 2017 Justin Albers 0

Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan was in Bloomington today to meet with Indiana regarding its open coaching position, multiple sources told me this afternoon.

Donovan flew into Monroe County Airport on a Cessna Citation jet with his wife and two other men, the sources said. The Thunder are off until Sunday when they visit the Houston Rockets in a nationally-televised game.

Donovan was back in Oklahoma City in time for Thunder practice this afternoon.

Donovan led Florida to back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007 and has reached four Final Fours and seven Elite Eights in his career. He’s in his second year with the Thunder, a job he took for the opportunity to coach both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Durant departed to join the Golden State Warriors over the summer.

Donovan has a 5-year, $30-million deal with the Thunder, so the Hoosiers would certainly have to pay up to pry him away. But I’m told money is not an issue for Indiana athletic director Fred Glass if he can get the guy he wants.

Here you go Hank

ESPN asked Steve Alford about the Indiana job and this was his response:

"I am absolutely 100 percent not going to Indiana. Staying at UCLA. I am happy. Love it here. Have a great class coming in, and brand-new practice facility. Obviously, I love my alma mater. Committed to UCLA. I am not going to talk to Indiana. I am staying a Bruin."

I would love to believe this but he signed a 10 year extension with New Mexico and then took the UCLA job a day later. He's a twat.

From December, 2006

So on Thursday, Saban -- who has tried to denounce the story about him potentially going to Alabama numerous times in recent weeks -- again, and adamantly, denied that he's headed back to the college ranks.

"I guess I have to say it," Saban said. "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach."

If they sign Alford they are huge morons. Guy is an awful coach. Anyone watching UCLA this season could see that. His players don't play hard on defense, they run no offense other than hero ball or Lonzo Ball. If he didn't have a great PG he wouldn't even come close to the tournament this year.

Dayton's Archie Miller is in serious talks to become new coach at Indiana, sources tell @TheVertical.

If he's anything like his brother I'd run very fast in the other direction.

Looks to be official with a press conf on Monday.

Not the best hire IMO. But he is WAY better than Alford. I was hopeful that the Donovan rumors were true, but could never buy into them. I would rather have had Marshall or Bennett.

Probably better off keeping Crean but I understand how the Indianapolis alums get about not making the Final Four. At least its not Alford.

Completely agree on it not being Alford.

I dont think they were better off keeping Crean. Crean wore out his welcome throughout the state. He was not getting any recruits from the state any time soon.

Miller has been at a couple big time programs that can recruit.

I think he may end up being a great hire...but to start with I think he is a solid hire.

Donovan was a pipe dream, he's a successful NBA coach in year 2. Tony Bennett has an undesirable coaching style for top prospects, very few if any top guys want a slow n grind it out style.

cause his brother is a terrible coach. He leads all coaches in the category of "gets less out of more". Great recruiter, but horrible coach. Just watch that Xavier game the other night for some great examples.

I do not know specifics about his coaching style as I have not watched much of Dayton over the last few years. But what I have read about him says that he is a better X and O guy than his brother, but his brother is the better recruiter.

I am reading a lot of people that are criticizing this hire as Crean 2.0.

I do not see that at all.

I'm OK with this. Miller was who I wanted before all the pipe dreams.

This will be a strange answer but a great hire at a place like Purdue but only a good one at Indiana. They shoot higher than a Dayton coach.
