The same general concept here applies though this site doesn't use Amazon. Basically, "things happen and the server needed to be fixed" puts you in a powerless position. They then fixed it and now we can be happy.

Like I said, the guy brought a lot of it on himself. His unique prose and style did not make him seem like the most educated guy in the world, despite an apparent New Trier upbringing. He also had some really dumb thoughts about moving the Sox to rural North Dakota and other things. There were some adversarial relationships between himself and other posters that got a little out of control, but that's just a natural function of one man being in charge.

But the way he's been turned into a total pariah by the new management team is horseshit. Apparently the divorce was messy, but I highly doubt it was all his fault the way we've been led to believe. Life experience has taught me that very, very rarely is one side ever 100% in the wrong. The site has worked noticeably worse since the day the handover took place, and all the fault has been laid at his feet. Seriously, this board goes down daily whereas before it did not.

Point is bigfan gets shit on constantly by people here and I dont think he should. I am suspicious of the new management team's anti-bigfan stance also, that perhaps there is another story that we haven't been told. I've found that when an individual is villainized by a community it is often to create a convenient target that will deflect valid criticism away from those who are insecure about being criticized.

Oh, for Christ's sake, it hasn't functioned any worse than it did before... and it would work even worse if the new management team hadn't protected it from bigfan's "nuclear option."

It doesn't matter because you don't believe any of what you post anyway. You're just trying to ruffle feathers.

The board under bigfan was routinely besieged by Turkish hackers. He also nuked about four years' worth of board history because there was TOO MUCH STUFF and he thought deleting text would somehow be a remedy to whatever the actual problem was.

The board's functionality is about the same, if not better, because the search function works again.

If I may defend bigfan, I'm going to guess some of that bad advice was coming from the hosting company. They seem to have some low level techs that basically have the job of telling you something that ends the conversation no matter how incorrect it is. "Go delete posts with lots of replies!" would probably get a person off the phone if the person wasn't technical enough to know that was not going to change anything.

They kept on telling me to optimize the board. I kept on telling them that I can't do anything and none of the options they gave worked.

The American based techs were very good once I got that far though. They quickly figured out that there may be an actual problem. Fixing it took a while though.

Bigfan is not shit on by management. As a group, we have repeatedly stated that the community would not exist without him.

We don't delete the posts of those that do attack him. I have publicly prodded his most common detractor to let his grudges go.

The change over has been repeatedly covered here. We honored our agreement. Even after we had no need to because the board history had been migrated to this site. That's called personal and professional integrity on our part.

Someone who steals from others and brags about here, now may want to shut up and move on to new discussion.
