Probably very few, otherwise there would be stories on the news about it. How many stories of gun violence have I seen on the news...almost every time I watch. How many stories have I seen about someone defending themselves....0. Yet it happens everyday.

This is starting to get less funny every time I read this thread. You can't seriously believe that giving everyone in the country a gun is a good idea. I gotta remember this is a sports message board, but c'mon ya can't be serious.

Well if you say probably, then I'll take it to the bank...
I would assume there is "very few" of everything in a town of 5,000.

It just amazes me that after all of the senseless gun violence that occurs in this country, in many cases carried out by people who legally own guns, we some how think the answer is to arm everyone.

Ivan I think you're dead  wrong.
I think arming everyone will increase public safety, much the same way as allowing everyone to drive will increase highway safety.
Think about it.
If you increase the amount of cars on the road by eliminating the pesky licensing requirements, traffic everywhere would slow down to crawl making it virtually impossible for anyone to generate enough speed to do any material damage with their vehicles.
And just imagine the positive impact on economy the manufacture of all these cars would have.

It's fucking brilliant!!!

The biggest point missed throught all this thread is that no handgun or firearm law will keep one single piece of hardware out of a criminals hands.

I thought the point of the thread was your inquiry about buying a gun.

And even if they made it illegal to make guns here, who's to say that the criminals wouldn't get their guns from China or Russia?

I didn't have anything to go wtih there, but it was about as powerful as your "Didn't see a stat on accidental shootngs anywhere, by the way..."

Well, I don't know I'm not trying to say everyone should have a gun. I'm bringing up at least some sort of evidence to say that we would turn into the Wild West is a baseless presumption. Countries have banned handguns and they are no safer. One town required it, and they are safer. Illinois is 1 of only 2 states that have no concealed carry provision and we are no safer either.

I hear you, bw. I just disagree that more guns = more safety.

In this crazy 'everybody is required to own a gun' society of yours, would I be arrested for not owning a gun... :P

So, are you anti gun guys at all familiar with guns? I mean have you ever used them? Or been around those that do?
When i go to the range, I am a safety nut.
I go over the rules with each member of my tribe.
I go over them again.
After they bitch at me for going over the rules a 3rd time, I'll smile, and go over them a 4th.
I screamed at tmurf423 once cause he didn't clear a chamber and open the action on a pump 12 guage before handing it to me...
I yelled "YOU COULDA JUST KILT ME!"
He didn't do it again.
Hey Ivan, I'd like to offer you a shot at the range with me.
Pack a lunch, and come on out. You can try my NEW 9mm at the pistol range, then we can shoot some clay pigeons with my 12 guage.
I'll wager that after you get my safety lecture, you'll have a blast!
I'll even buy your ammo and pigeons. You wanna do it?

No, there would be a state setup where nobody would be allowed to have a gun....well almost nobody. Don't worry though there would be a sign so people knew guns wouldn't be allowed.

Or you can just come over to my house and play Duck Hunt on the NES.
Pretty much the same thing only you can drink yourself silly and try to shoot the dog when he picks up the ducks

Three points...

1.) Mustang Rob = my new favorite poster.

2.) Personally, I prefer Gears of War to Duck Hunt where I can use a chainsaw bayonet. I hope Darkside has a good safety course on that one.

3.) And finally, I just hope they don't ban monkey kissing...

Get that FOI updated ASAP, I'm hearing delays longer than 30 days.

Dupage is problem pretty good for gun owners since it's heavily republican.

Illinois has about the strictest Gun restrictions in the entire union.
It's 1 of 12 without concealed carry (that's right 38 states allow concealed carry! and you worried about DuPage)
It's 1 of only 14 that disallow loaded transport.
You cannot own a handgun in Chicago, Chicago Hts, East STL, and a handful of other communities.

Illinois, one of the toughest gun control laws states, and still, theres gun violence.

Illinois, perfect example of how gun control laws do not stop gun violence.

OK Darkside, what's the example of a state where liberal gun laws have stopped gun violence?

Truth is you'd never know how violent it could be without gun control laws. Population growth, economics, education, and other demographics all play into crime rates... not just whether a state has gun control laws. Sure, gun control won't stop violence, but you can't say for certain it wouldn't help.

I just hope they don't ban tablets. I ain't never heard a nobody smackin' a fool wif a tablet
