The third and final season premiers next Sunday night. Really looking forward to it, but it sucks there's only 8 episodes left. One of the best and most unique shows I've seen recently. Might have to binge the 2nd season again to get properly caught up.

Here's a review that doesn't spoil much, but yeah it sounds like they made it to Australia

Quote:
Because of the Rapture-esque nature of the plot, and the constant allusions to the Bible, The Leftovers has wrongly been called a “religious” show. But it’s decidedly, frustratingly agnostic. It doesn’t claim to have the answers. It merely shows how real people might wrestle with extraordinary, inexplicable things. It’s a show about religion, how people come to believe what they believe, and why they continue to do so despite all available evidence leading them in another direction.

That idea is the through line of the show’s final season, which follows the tormented police chief Kevin Garvey as he attempts to reconcile the fact that, apparently, he cannot die. Some of those around him think he’s literally the second coming of Jesus Christ. Others think he’s recovering from a psychotic episode. He’s not sure what to believe, but the show finds a clever way to get him—and those he loves—to Australia, where he may find the answers he seeks.

As the final season begins, the world is just two weeks away from the seventh anniversary of “The Sudden Departure,” when 140 million people inexplicably vanished into thin air. The show crackles with the anxious energy of something big about to happen—perhaps another departure, perhaps the return of those lost, perhaps the world ending for good this time. Or, again, maybe it’ll be nothing.

The second season of this show was phenomenal after what I thought was an average first season. I'm really looking forward to the final season.

This is my favorite TV show ever. I'm sorry it has to end.

I've got to get thru The Wire first but this sounds like it should be next on the HBO list.

Last season was brilliant. Glad that it has a final season. This show has great ideas. The Guilty Remnant is so clever.

The first season was terrible. I didn't give the second season a chance.

Terrible is harsh. Uneven certainly. But for terrible look at the last few years of Entourage, The Brink, John From Cincinnati and True Detective Season 2.

That's a shame. You're missing out on a great show.

Did you think the first season was bad?

I think someone may have mentioned the second season was a lot better. If it's more of the same then I'll pass.

I thought the first season was very good, and second season was all-time good. I have very high expectations for this final season.

Very excited to see how they end this.

Liked season 1 despite it being incredibly depressing.

Season 2 was one of the best seasons of TV I've seen.

Watch season 2. I think it's one of the best tv show seasons I have seen. Much better than season 1.

I'm glad I kept going with it. Season one was interesting at times because it was so different but season 2 really pulled a lot of things together.
Not sure what to expect with this short final season but if they keep it on track and concise it could be very good. I think it is a good idea to
wrap up a show while it is still strong rather than dragging us along for a few more years.

Really enjoyed the first episode, especially with the time jump.

And the ending sets up nicely for a mystery of the final season.

I also am going to miss this cast.

What a great episode. Confirmation that this is still the best show on TV. Can't wait to see what happened with Nora/Sarah.

What other show in the history of television could spend the first five minutes on characters you've never seen, with no dialogue and have it still be powerful, meaningful, emotional and fit right into the story?

Yeah, I watched that opening four times.

The music on this show is very underrated. I had never heard of that I Wish We'd All Been Ready song before but it's hard to think of a better choice there.

Yes the musical selections have been great. I think it was in a Sepinwall review that said it's like Lindelof and Perotta told someone in the 70s that one day they were gonna make great TV show and had them write songs just for this show.

What's crazy is that people still believe in the religion depicted in the opening including the head of House and Urban Development. It's interesting to watch the show depict it's interpretation on how religions start, and what it does to relationships.

Great episode and much funnier than I expected.

The main thing that made Season 1 such a drag was the complete lack of humor. They have solved that.

This might be my favorite episode of the series.

Agreed.

Season 2 completely got them in their groove and they maintained stride last night.

Tough to top International Assassin or I Live Here Now but it was just below those.

I imagine by the end of these last 8 episodes I may feel differently.
