So, if one were to have Sling and the Cubs' game is on ABC or CSN, is a person going to be allowed to watch it or will it be like the idiotic MLB.TV blackout rules?

Also, anyone have failure or success stories using the apps for Android or Apple devices? Do you even need the app?

Playstation Vue now DOES have MLB Network. Going to do the free trial and then probably only use Comcast for internet.

Yup, they just added it last week. The only thing they are missing now if the local WGN feed. But you can get around that with an HD anntenna.

PlayStation Vue with an HD antenna is the best set-up you can possibly have right now.

The only channel I'm missing right now is NHL Network, but I'm able to locate other feeds to cover when the Hawks play there (and that won't even be a problem in the playoffs)

I signed up for the Vue trial last night. I'm watching the White Sox game right now on CSN but don't understand how. I'm in Indianapolis and don't have a regular cable subscription to CSN.

Does your normal cable provider not offer it in Indy?

Vue generally carries your local RSN except if it is Root Sports. I'm out of market so I've got MLB Network (which is carrying this game on Vue)

It's a pay TV service, but I wouldn't really call it a cable subscription.

Ok, good talk.

Let me know when you figure out how/why you are watching a baseball game.

It's not cable though, its' a streamed TV service. My high speed Internet isn't even cable.

Is DirecTV cable? Sling TV? Vue?

You're splitting hairs (or cables?)

The term cable TV covers any kind of paid TV service.

This whole cord cutting thing is a mindfuck but I'm learning. I'm blacked out from watching any Cubs, Sox, or Reds games on my MLB.tv subscription. I'm able to watch the Bulls on NBA League Pass. And the NFL Sunday Ticket app blocks me from watching Bears games when they're on locally (fox/cbs) in Indy. I know Sling doesn't offer network channels in Indy yet. Neither does Directvnow or Vue.

IF you're in an area that allows you to get CSN then you should be able to watch any Cubs/Bulls/Sox/Hawks game that isn't on WGN or WCIU.

You can watch almost any current season of any show on-demand also. Those are up longer than 30 days, but MANY disable fast forward and include a couple ads. I haven't had many issues so far. I've got HBO with my Vue package, and that includes a login for HBO Now so I don't have to worry about DVR'ing anything from HBO. Other than that, most of my shows are on AMC or FX, and those have On-Demand options.

Overall it's a great product. It's definitely the best out of all the players in the streaming tv business right now.

That's a massive deal breaker.

It's only 30 days, but it's an unlimited amount of recordings stored for 30 days so no space issues

Got an email from Youtube TV which (in Chicago at least) has the local channels and about 50 other cable channels (including ESPN, but not Fox Sports) for $30 a month for 6 users, unlimited DVR, and they give you a Chromecast for free to hook up to it. They have a free trial which I will probably try in the next couple of months to see if it is a feasible alternative to the $120 UVerse cable bill.

Like I said, a massive deal breaker.

Watching shows on-demand is a weak substitute for having those shows already at your beck and call on your DVR hard drive. As you said, lots of on-demand shows force you to sit through commercials. Fuck that. And, with on-demand you are at the mercy of internet speed and occasional outages.

I have the largest DVR hard drive and still have 80% of it used up, I'm months behind on some shows and other shows I purposely wait till they are finished before binging. the 30 day DVR limit is ridiculous and a non starter.

When I had cable, I'd usually have to delete things after 2 weeks anyway due to space requirements. However many of the shows as noted are available longer via VoD.

Plus if that episode re-airs (as often happens) it bumps it up for another 30 days on the DVR. I've had TMC movies like "North by Northwest" on there for like 6 months because TMC re-airs it every few weeks.

Hmm. Weird.

Also, look, it's crosscheck! :D

I've been able to get by with piracy so far ... there's some really good and reliable streams out there this year ... which is good b/c I literally do not have a television.

I'm still happy with Vue. Even with their highest package and my separate Internet, I'm saving $65-$70 per month from what I was spending.

Just not having to pay $30 a month for fucking cable box rentals (which are obsolete tech in 2017) is worth it. A $85 Fire HD gives me the best platform for Vue and other streaming services. I of course use my PS4 in my man cave since I already have it, but Fire HD in the other rooms with a $25 antenna for OTA (plus digital subchannels)

I just went to Sling. Not bad for the price. If you buy both Sling packages it is $40 a month.
