No team in the NFL did less to improve itself for the coming season than the Bears.

They are proudly advertising the fact that their #2 overall pick will not see a snap in the coming season, they made a pathetic effort in free agency only really shelling out for a lottery ticket at QB and it is entirely within the realm of possibility that the QB they signed is worse than Cutler. Alshon Jeffery, popularly accepted as the Bears best player (I disagree but w/e), is gone. The draft consists of D2 projects that could take a full season of development (steroids) before being able to see the field, a project QB and a kick returner. The presumptive starter at LT, at this moment, seems to be a toss up between a talented player who spent last season playing center and Charles Leno Jr...who doesn't belong in the NFL really. The secondary might have gotten worse with the loss of Porter. I could go on, they are doomed at multiple position groups.

To make matters worse some of their best players are serious injury risks. Floyd, Goldman, Sitton and McPhee are teetering right on the edge of a career ender. For all we know Trevathan and Long may be finished already. Their next best player, Howard, is a running back and they can land wrong just once and it's all over. Nothing has been to shore up depth in the event of these injuries except maybe the drafting of Cohen.

Here's the point, #1 overall next year is not out of the question. In fact, seeing all the 49ers and Browns have done to improve with a lot of high impact draft picks, the Bears are probably to odds-on favorite to pick first overall. And if that happens...what should they do?

Sam Darnold, if he has a great season and lights it up at his workouts, has the potential to be a Manning/Luck-type "perfect" QB prospect. The kind of QB prospect that absolutely mandates use of the #1 overall pick. Now these kinds of guys who just need to be outstanding for one more season come along more often than people realize and often they flounder and wind up just being part of another weak QB class, but the purpose of argument say Darnold flourishes. That's a hell of a decision to make, to ignore picking (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky the year earlier and go for the truly cant-miss QB prospect that may not come around for another 10 years or sell the most coveted #1 overall since at least Andrew Luck for what could be an unprecedented bouquet of picks.

Long way to go for this to happen, but really its a win-win scenario long-term if it does.

Even if he is the rest of the team could definitely be bad enough to go 2-14 with a few key injuries.

The Bears aren't the odds on favorite to be the worst team. They'll be good enough to win at least 4-5 games. Cleveland and SF will be absolute disasters offensively.

No, they'll be fine. Howard is very good and Meredith is good. Glennon is ok. The line is ok. The rest of the WR core will be ok. They won't be good offensively but they won't be bottom 5 either

The defense is so bad that offense will have to score 4+ TD's a game just to make it close. Cleveland and San Francisco could easily have pretty impressive defense units that grind them some wins despite woeful offensive contributions.

The Steelers are a dying star
The Ravens aren't much better
Bungles

The one thing that kind of "helps" the Bears is their weakass schedule, especially in the second half.

The Bears have a good front 7. The secondary is horrendous but the front 7 is good enough to win games against terrible offensive lines.

On a neutral field I'm pretty certain the Bears would be favored over the Browns, 49ers, Jets, and Rams to start the season. Maybe a few others.

The Ravens Steelers and Bengals are all significantly more talented on both sides of the ball.

The Jets are a good call, they are truly dreadful.

I agree that the Bears front 7 looks good but McPhee is a lock to miss at least half the games this year and Floyd, though talented, seems to have similar injury problems. Goldman is like McPhee. Trevathan may be finished, we really dont know.

FF suddenly wants to tell us how good the Bears are once he realizes this draft may have pushed them a tier lower than they were last year, and the implications that has going forward. He doesn't have me fooled one bit.

No, I just don't really see them being worse than last year. They were destroyed by injuries last year and they almost certainly improved their QB spot. And their defense won't be terrible. I still think they'll be pretty bad but I'm 100% sure they will win more games than the Browns.

As long as we beat LeBron in the regular season then we should be able to get past the indians in the championship series.

No, actually I didn't.

Paxson had had 14 years with no titles.

Bears have had 31.

That's what that posting meant.

Titles, Seacrest. Not appearances.

If you are explaining, you are losing.

Keep up your bitching though, it might get bigfan to come back to cry "anti-semites" again or something.

Not really.....If I have to explain a post to you, I wouldn't call that losing. It seems you are "losing" post comprehension.

This is my favorite time of the year. Seacrest shows up to defend the Bears.

I want you to think of something here. Tom Ricketts.....who had zero experience owning a sports team....none.....somehow, without the use of a consultant, figured out who to hire to run his team and then to get out of the way. And this was a team that had the record for sports futility. All time record. And in 5 years, his team won a title.

The NFL is supposedly a sport where in the span of a couple years, you can be competitive again. And somehow, the Bears have not only managed to beat that trend but obliterate it.

I didn't come here to defend the Bears. In three years we can have an honest discussion about how the draft worked out. One of your tidbits from last year.
