Someone has to explain to me what they see in Eddie Jackson. The guy cant stay healthy and all of his plays come because Tim Williams or Jonathan Allen are murdering some poor SEC QB while two lockdown corners on the outside shutdown the opponent's two best WR's. His interceptions are glorified punts half the time, some desperate QB just launching the ball into the air hoping a) not to be beheaded and b) for it to just land harmessly on the ground (in that order).

Delusions of grandeur from a 4th round pick.

Really? You are basing this off of Whitehair and Howard I'm assuming because Flloyd did not look like a top 10 pick that you trade up for to me last year -even tho he played ok.

I haven't gone back to research other teams drafts from last year, but I'd be surprised if the Bears graded out as the 2nd best. Maybe they do tho, not sure.

I think I was the only person on this board who didn't hate this pick -tho I don't love the pick either. I agree with your injury concerns, but I disagree with the rest of your assessment of him. You can say the exact same things about Allen looking good on that defense too -he was surrounded by talent, he benefitted form this or that. In fact, people did bring that up about Allen as well along with most other players from Bama's defense (it gets brought up almost every year actually about their prospects). So I'm not personally going to rely on that correlation.

Bama doesn't recruit bottom of the barrel talent on defense, and this kid does have actual talent. He has decent size too for the position of safety (6 feet 200 pounds). His only major concerns really are his injury history. In any event, he's a guy the Bears took a flyer on in the 4th round that doesn't set the franchise back 3 years if they whiff on him. Can't say that about their 1st pick who they gave up a lot for when they most likely didn't have to. Its weird that out of all the things that happened in this draft with the Bears, the one you keep scratching your head about is a 4th round pick they traded away a 6th round pick to move up and get.

I am not that thrilled with the DB from Bama, and I would have prefferred they gave the Iowa saftey a shot.

But I do find it interesting that so many have complained about Pace drafting people out of nowhere colleges and then the one guy he gets from a great football school they claim that he just reaped the benefits of everyone else.

 Just another example of damned if you do, damned if you don't

I'm with you here. Not sure why he slid, there may be a legit reason behind it.

Bama players get this almost every year tho -buyer beware, they played with a lot of talent around them and that could be a reason for their success. I don't disagree with the spirit of those comments -I get it- but for a 4th round pick? Who cares. I understand those reservations more when they're being hitched to a higher risk spot in the draft that you need to hit a home run on (1st round basically).

Fair point, NME.

I'm still going to hold that I saw 'Bama multiple times and he sucks.

I've been wrong before.

Fair enough. Hell, I'm not saying he'll be great either myself. Just saying there isn't much risk involved with him panning out. Would have rather taken the flyer on King or Lawson myself there in the 4th, but it is what it is.

As usual, I'm hoping they all work out.

I wanted Jordan Lewis bad. Put on the Michigan tapes, it was always him, not Peppers, making the plays.

I believe that was CBS or NFL.com rankings from a couple of days ago

I think you are missing something in your review of Floyd. He was a wrecking ball in the middle of the season before his injuries. He must progress but a 7 sack first year in limited games is pretty impressive

I dunno, I don't think so. Undersized lanky specialist tweener that gets rag dolled on almost every down and may not have the body to hold up to an entire NFL season. I think that's pretty accurate. That, and you don't pay the price they did for a specialist, at least imo. But maybe we're going to have to disagree on that.

He was better than I thought he'd be, I'll admit that. But I didn't see anything last year that made me think 'top 10 in the NFL draft talent'. If he becomes a consistent double digit sack guy, I'll be totally wrong. But I don't see that happening either.

That says it all. Pace goes out of his way to talk about best player available and the entire draft was instead smartest guy in the room, as if we needed to be subjected to more of that. As always, it may work out. But there is little to no chance any of these guys start, in a year when people are trying to save their jobs. It makes zero fucking sense. Taken as a whole, it was a brutal, illogical draft.

One of the deepest defensive back classes with legit starter potential into the late 3rd round, and they grab a guy with a metal post in his leg. I dont want that shit ever.

How do you feel about the 2nd day selections? How do you feel about the draft overall?

Doc feel free to answer these question too.

I like the first 2 round picks as players but the machinations that led to it and the rest of the picks are a bag of suck.

What did you like about the division 2 TE?

I like his size and strength. He seems to have good play speed but that will be tested.

He has a large catch radius and very good hands and should be a beast in the red zone and for first downs particularly for a young QB.

I am much more comfortable with the Jackson pick than I was on Saturday. They needed a FS and that is exactly what they got. It seems like 75% of the safeties out there in every draft are SS with varying degrees of cover skills. This guy has great coverage skills. His inability to work out obscured our analysis of him.

His injury history is a concern, but I like what I have seen from him as well. He is a FS and seems like a great athlete.

Old threads like this are interesting to read. It kind of goes to show how little the average fan knows about talent and for even those who do, the player draft is mainly still a crap shoot, even for the team doing the drafting. I am as bad at these projections as anyone but enjoy it when the so-called "experts" are wrong about a player.
