The dumbfucks on Hit and Run are finally coming around on the fact that Quintana just might not get traded after all. "Ya know there's going to be a lot of guys on the market at the deadline." Yeah no shit, Sherlock. Hahn (intentionally) missed his window to trade these guys at the winter meetings.

Just because there might be other guys on the market, doesnt mean that it would be impossible to trade Quintana.

I don't think there was a plan to trade him unless given the moon.

That's the right plan. Kenny Williams would have traded him for Jhonny Nunez, Jeff Marquez, and Wilson Betemit. Then maybe Keyser, America, and you would be happy.

Rightly so.

This insane desire to just get rid of guys just because is baffling.

Sox fans are the fucking worst. Bitch about everything.

They could've gotten Tucker for him.

The reality is, there's only two guys in this lineup OPS'ing solidly above league average. Tim Anderson, Melky Cabrera, and Todd Frazier are all in the toilet, guys you relied on in the past for offense.

Hahn has got to see and understand this. If the lineup had considerably more pop, maybe short-circuiting the rebuild to take advantage of Avi's MVP-caliber start to the season would be warranted. But with Rodon on the DL, Kopech walking 7 batters per 9 in AA, and Reynaldo Lopez just kinda "meh" in AAA, I think a deal gets done as Quintana rights the ship.

The only way the Sox contend this year is if Moncada is instantly one of the best three or so players in baseball. Basically another Mike Trout.

While it is kind of cool that the Sox have a guy who at least could be that kind of player, the odds of it are miniscule and the likely scenario is the team slowly sinks as the shitty pitching shows it's true colors.

The wildcard is Jerry. If he's non compos mentice in hospice I think Hahn has the authority to keep the arb clock on Moncada from even starting this season, and vies for a top-5 pick in next year's draft. But if Jerry is still lucid, he can order Hahn to dance to the "go for it" tune once again, because Kenny's guy Avi finally turned it around with a swing plane adjustment.

This is a rebuild on the fly. I am not really 100% on board with that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "on the fly". You want them to lose on purpose? That would make you feel better about rebuilding? They've lost three in a row so maybe The Plan is working.

On the fly meaning, "trying to contend" and trading guys. They traded 2 guys for some prospects. That is not a rebuild.

You should always try to contend. A rebuild is maximizing the return on pieces you trade. They shouldn't give guys away just to make fans feel they are doing things "The Cub Way" which has actually only worked once since teams started tanking.

The thing is they don't have to trade Quintana this year if he pitches poorly. I think they can potentially get a good return for some combination of Holland, Gonzalez, and a few of those bullpen pieces. Also it'd be great if Abreu were highly sought after at the deadline.

My opinion is, they are going to use Jose to transition the other Cuban they got from the Sawx.

Quintana isn't Cuban.

Unless I am incorrect, he was only talking about trading Jose ABREU. Which I believe is Cuban.

That's exactly bass ackward. Top starters are dropping like flies. Demand will far exceed supply. Hahn looks like a fucking genius for waiting.

Genius? I dunno about that, Quintana hasn't exactly been mowing guys down in his first 6 starts. It's a risky move by Hahn, it could backfire badly if Quintana continues to pitch poorly or get hurt.

That may be true but we really do not know that, which is the problem with all of these reviews of what Hahn should have done.

The Astros may have been offering nothing more than A ball players with upside. Hahn said he would have gotten abused by fans if he made the trade that was being offered.

He wanted Martes and Paulino on top of Tucker. Or Bregman.

Yep. Giants could trade Cueto, Mets could trade Harvey, A's could trade Gray, Rays could trade Archer, Cobb and Odorizzi and the Blue Jays will trade anything that's not nailed down. Buyers market.

Harvey sucks. And not sure if the Giants are giving up so quickly or in the future. You really are trying to be as negative as possible on this. There are zero pitchers on the market with Quintana's contract. He makes next to nothing.

Quintana's contract doesn't matter if Quintana isn't any good. Right now Darvish is the prize, he will be the one commanding the megadeal and if I were the Astros he is the only one I'm giving up Tucker for. If the Sox want to move Quintana they will find a buyer but it will be at 50% of the price they would've gotten him for in December.

You have no clue if that is the case. Quintana has 4 quality starts and is beloved by the advance stat guys. He is still highly desired. Just waiting to see if someone meets their price.

People love to bitch, but the Sox may have more than one pitcher to flip if Shields and Holland continue to pitch well. These guys are also cheap, which teams love and pay extra for.
