I have always been a supporter of prep sports coverage on the Score and enjoyed Hood's HS Holla as well as prep sports tangents on Baum and Rosenbloom. BUT... Mike's excessive mentions of his Notre Dame program are strating to annoy the **** out of me. Today he even had the head coach on. In all other circumstance I'd be welcoming appearances of head coaches from major high school basketball programs. However, this dude was brought on solely to expand the already excessive ND mentions. It's one thing if Mike decides to pioneer extensive HS hoops coverage (which this City's programs very well deserve) and includes the previous day's scores in Fred's reports and a good discussion/interviews covering multiple schools, public and private. But this one sided ND garbage is starting to get extremely bothersome to a point when I consider turning the dial to WLS.

You knew this was going to happen. Mr. "It's All About Me" can't go take a dump without turning it into a major segment on the next day's show, so you had to figure NDHS would be elevated in Chicago basketball importance to just slightly below the Bulls and DePaul in this guy's world once he got this gig.

He did the same thing yesterday talking about Jereme Richardson (or whatever) from Waukegan.
"We'd consider taking him..."

Mike North: talk show host/superintendant/principal/assnt. basketball coach.

That comment really made me wonder if IHSA has any rules against recruiting like that. Remember the uproar a few years ago right around the recruiting season when Koach K appeared on every channel every 15-20 minutes in Amex commercials?

To hear Mike talk about it like he is part of a major college basketball program, is the very picture of a guy with no life when he gets off the radio.

Then what does that make all of you??? :P

It's a private school. they can do what they want. the only thing that is required is that the kid sit out a year if he did not change residences or move to get closer to the school.

Yes, because clearly basketball players had no idea who Coach K was before they saw him in a credit card ad. I'll admit, there are a lot of legit knocks on Coach K and Duke, but this has always been the one that I roll my eyes at and wonder how stupid someone is to think it makes any damn sense.

Grown men, without children, who follow High School sports closely enough to argue about them creep me out. I'm sorry, it had to be said.

Agreed. You can even amend it to "(G)rown men, without children in 'youth program/school X' but follow it closely enough to argue about it, creep me out". Seems more like a progression of a pedophile, rather than a lover of 'sport at its purest level'.

He really talks about his school he "coaches"?

Does he take da kids to Gibsons after the game? Are there rules like there are in college about "special" treatment for players?

If I were management, this would be the last straw. A station with a morning show that has a half dozen pro teams and a signal powerful enough to talk about other cities and their college and pro teams, should not be pushing listeners away to a national show by talking about his high school basketball team he coaches.

Dont they have the stones to tell him this is another mistake?

Bookie priest
Jagbag of the day
hgh player of the day
real estate game
freds hip hop moments
desert island quiz
four team parlay
etc etc etc

When I got in my car the other day, the radio was on the Score, and this interview was on. At first, I didn't know who they were talking to but I thought "Hey, they are talking about SPORTS, I'll listen".

Soon became clear, it was less and less about sports, and more and more about MIKE.

Changed the station for the rest of the ride.

Great point, I had busted Huebner on this a few years ago, when he was part of the Murphy morning Zoo. Huebner was going going on an on one morning about how he enjoyed attending Riverside Brookfield HS Girl's Basketball games because it basketball in it's purest form.

I called in and said you are a 40+ year old male with no children or daughter directly involved in the school or game, and Huebner himself had no affiliation with the school. I told he was not a fan, but a stalker. Needless to say, Murphy cut me off, then gave the "let the record show" bs which was a lie, for I wanted to discuss with them how insane they were, and that if they did believe that, I wouldn't make it public.
