BREAKING NEWS: SALISBURY OUT AT ESPN

For those of you that had Sean Salisbury in the "Who will be fired because of Cris Carter's hiring" pool.....give yourself a hand. The former NFL QB has released a statement and so has the "Leader"....

Sean Salisbury: “I want to thank ESPN for 12 great years of talking football on TV and the radio. I have grown as much as I can at ESPN and decided to expand my horizons. I have created a brand and it’s time to expand into other opportunities in TV, radio, Internet, publishing, movies and public speaking, among others. My resume speaks for itself as a football analyst, and I believe I can talk all sports with the best of them.”

ESPN’s statement: “Sean Salisbury has made many contributions to our efforts for the past 12 years. We thank him and wish him all the best.”

Twelve years is a damn long time, and it definitely doesn't seem that long in regards to Salisbury. There is no official word on who's decision this was, but the Star Tribune is reporting that ESPN decided not to renew his contract. I personally couldn't stand him as an analyst and I knew few who could. Hopefully this mean that ESPN is switching up their style over substance positioning as of late. Jaws is obviously better than Theismann and Carter is definitely an improvement over Salisbury.

I fully expect Sean Salisbury to be on a Best Damn Sports type show in no time. Oh and please leave your ESPN Mobile Phone at the door on your way out for evidence.

Sean Salisbury was a very bad QB.

I wonder if he'll try to hook up somewhere around the league as a QB coach. He almost took that job with the Cardinals a few years back when Green was hired there.

There are many people better than Sean, but Cris Carter? I dont understand that hire at all. Getting rid of Sean is a big plus and I am thrilled to see that smug asshole out of work. Good luck on those "public speaking" and "acting" opportunities Sean.

It's a media parallel of the Bulls trading Ben Wallace.

Maybe he could move into his "good friend Adam Sandler's" basement.

I think Cris with no h will do a much better job than Uncle Rico ever did. I know he doesn't have all of the game watching experience Sean had , but, in my opinion, he did a pretty good job on HBO.

Cris Carter is terrible!

Salisbury will be on NFL network, he will fit in better.

If he is on the NFL network, I will write a letter every day to the Big R ala Shawshank Redemption to get him fired.

Watch him replace Waddle, making things go full circle.

I wonder if he's sent a resume up to Halas Hall to replace Griese yet.

Acting? Public speaking?

Holy shit is this guy delusional. Who is gonna hire a stuttering meatball for these jobs.

Sean, the only reason you got to be in one movie was cuz you were on ESPN. You do realize that. Nobody wants you for movies.

No corporation is gonna pay you to be a public speaker. Man. He's priceless.

Can he replace Joniak in the Bears Booth?

If I hear one more "you are ridiculous" or "windy city flyer" call....well, given recent events locally on college campii, I won't go there.

Bottom line: Joniak is the worst play by play guy in Bears history.

As long as Adam Sandler keeps making movies, there will always be a bit part for the likes of Salisbury and Dan Patrick.

I can't stand Salisbury, but doesn't he have a point? Why does ESPN pay and promote morons like Emmit who clearly cannot talk, just because they were good players?
I hate agreeing with him, but I think it's a fair point

What do you mean - that he doesn't offer decent analysis (which I would agree with) or are you suggesting that his diction is poor?

One of the CSFMB highlights was when we were at a remote before Bears/Saints playoff game and a lot of us bombarded L Justin Craig with "Fire Salisbury" thoughts and breaking out into a chant of "Fire Rico clip clap clippety clap"......

His take...

Sean Salisbury said he felt unappreciated and underpaid and he knew that by asking for a seven-figure contract, the result would be a “mutual parting.

“I’d grown tired of being punished for not being an NFL superstar. Analysts who don’t work as hard as me, don’t prepare as hard as me, and don’t have my resume were making more than me just because of their ability to throw or catch a football. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciated the opportunity ESPN gave me, but they had capped my ceiling."

That is a very low ceiling.

Coming from the same guy who used to say "You never played in the NFL!" as a retort to John Clayton all the time in Inside the Huddle. Who ya Crappin, Uncle Rico?

There was a moment after this "mutual parting" when I felt bad for the guy. It really pains me to see a person fired. Sean was able to get me back in a proper frame of mind with these quotes.

Does that guy have zero self realization?
