Agreed. I think it exposes their unwillingness to back their words with actions, I've been on pretty uneasy ground since it became clear the "rebuild" last offseason was only going to consist of two trades. The whiff on perfect circumstances such as these for the exact type of player they desperately need (this assumes the rebuild narrative) would push me over the edge.

Positive outlook comp is probably Adam Jones. Negative outlook is probably somebody like Brian Anderson, or any one of the millions of failed outfield prospects with screaming loud physical tools.

The key with Robert is that there is a small chance that he is absolutely transcendent. Those kinds of prospects who have legitimate MVP potential showing at such young ages is extremely rare, and the Sox have three of those guys now (Kopech and Moncada are the other two). The system is still very thin, and probably not one of baseball's ten best because once you get past the first 8 or so guys its dogshit, but at least they have the guys at the top.

Doing well with the Robertson deal is key. The Quintana situation is still depressing, they are not going to get even half of what they would've gotten in the offseason for him, but salvaging what little they can for him would at least infuse some depth into the system. A third blue chip position player would've been outstanding, but two can work if they do everything else right.

Never trust a man with 2 first names.
