Don't let these Cats make you think for one second that they have have it tough at all. They are very well payed, work 4 hours a day talking sports, have access to any sporting event in Chicago and get more free shit than a night at the Oscars.

We tend to think these guys have real jobs and have the same lives we do and it's just not the case. They do work hard for their money and I can honestly say I could not do the job as well as them either. Without being accused of Mac's ass licker, the guy is the best at what he does and compared to Norths money he is underpaid but again they have pretty cool lives.

I was more puzzled that Mac marinates his shrimp overnight. I'd like to know the ingredients.

Why? Wasn't that also said about over-the-air TV upon the advent of cable? I seriously doubt that "free" radio is going away any time soon...

While I might pay to get broadcasts of various sporting events, I'd never pay for the privilege of hearing sports-related, witty banter.

At the risk of repeating myself, I heard all these same things before in the 1960s when people said "I'll never pay for TV". Times change, circumstances change, and so does one's willingness to pay for certain kinds of entertainment. How many people today are watching TV solely by picking up broadcast airwaves (no cable or sat)? 5%? Radio might have a similar situation in 25 years. Free radio won't be going away, but what you can get for free in the future might not be enough to keep you interested. Who would have thought 40 years ago that people would pay to watch witty banter on TV? Never say never. It's a long life we live.

There is no such thing as "free" radio unless the station you listen to doesn't have commercials. You just are paying with your time instead of your pocketbook.

There are two bad things about sports radio on satellite radio. It still has commercials(the hosts need a break) and it's harder to do local.

Interesting how this post morphed into "free" vs. "pay" radio. Maybe I missed something that they referred to regarding this.

All I was asking about was whether or not they were using this phrase and inferring that a "change" was on the horizon.

While sports radio is a big entertianment source for me, and I do very much enjoy it, I would not pay for it. I've got my MP3 player, I'd manage in the car with no AM sport yackers.

While there may be fewer people who have no cable or satellite service, the big three over-the-air networks still have a very large viewing audience. They still broadcast the big events (Superbowl, Oscars, etc). They're still relevant.

When you pay for TV, you theoretically get a larger variety of entertainment options: TV shows, movies, sporting events, etc. You might be willing to pay for the privilege of viewing some of these things as they're only available for those who pay.

But I think that paying to view is completely different from paying to hear. Radio is still background material. Who sits down in front of the radio and focuses solely on what's being broadcast?

Unless music labels and artists and sports leagues decide to only let their product be played on "pay" radio (which is certainly a possibility somewhere in the future), "free" radio will be in demand...or I am completely wrong.

Quality has a very measurable value in these modern times we live. The ads and spots will in the show, even on satellite radio.

The fellas need at least time enough to eat and towel off between segments.

If anybody had any sense at ESPNTV, they would develop a local channel to rival and easily pants the duct tape and bubble gum joke that is ComcastSporthing.

Imagine a world with a MJH TV simulcast 2-6, with a Chicago/regional SportsCenter live at 6pm with the cast of beauties that already do updates here.

Make me one promise and and mix in some soft lighting. Not all stations use it in these parts. Even break out the Lou Dobbs vaseline to rub all over the lens. Better yet just show graphics and stats over the HJM cam blooper reel, err, best of.

I agree, I dont think there is a market for it. Not to mention if any of you have payed attention to the current Satellite radio market both companies are hemorrhaging money. Speaking from a standpoint of being a Sirius subscriber for over two years, I have never heard a sports show that isnt a national show. Moreover, if you give MJH approx 100,000 listeners currently, I would say that conservatively no more than 1/3 of them would purchase subscriptions to the service. All three would also be looking at a significant pay cut unless the Sirius/XM merger is approved and they can move into the black.
