I started "Hardcore History" based upon many of the recs in this thread. First one I listened to was "Destroyer of Worlds" and damn was it great. I can see why he only does a few episodes a year with each one being that in depth on the subject. I think it ran 6 hours and I never felt its length.

EconTalk w/ Russ Roberts
London School of Economics Public Lectures
Serial - excl. 1st season. I quit 2 episodes in...BAD
Beating the Book with Gill Alexander
The Ringer NFL Show - not as good as Mays/Barnwell podcast. ALWAYS ignore episodes with Michael Lombardi. He's awful.
The Bill Simmons Podcast - only Monday with Sal. Simmons has become a huge twat and his other podcasts show it.
Behind The Bets "The College Years" - I only like the college one with "The Bear" and Stanford Steve
Ivy Envy - very cheerlead-y Cubs podcast. Hit or miss
Effectivley Wild: Fangraphs Podcast - Carson Cistulli is the best.
Wrigleyville Nation - decent Cubs podcast
Game of Thrones Podcast (Bald Move) - I like this one best.
Freakonomic Radio - very hit or miss
Pod Save America - liberal circle jerk essentially bashing Trump and gutless Paul Ryan.

The Pete and Sebastian Show - http://www.riotcast.com/peteandsebastian

Comedians Pete Corealle and Sebastian Maniscalco bullshit, there is like 260 episodes, timeless and hilarious.

The Sofa Kings - http://www.sofakingpodcast.com/

3 guys who bullshit on everything from conspiracy theories, to pop culture, to technology, mass media, the future, etc. Each cast is dedicated to 1 topic. Couple amazingly interesting episodes include: DARPA, Fast Food, Vikings, Simultations and Alternate Universes, HAARP, and Nikola Tesla.

How Did This Get Made - http://www.earwolf.com/show/how-did-this-get-made/

Comedians Paul Scheer (The league), jason mantzoukas (The League), and June Diane Rafield review and discuss bad movies. It is awesome and they do a lot of the shows live in theaters. Great comedy. Some favorites include: Face-Off, Zardoz, 88 minutes, Sleepaway Camp, The Devils Advocate.

WHA used to run episodes of Freakonomics Radio on weekends. A few of them were really really good, but yeah, others not at all.

I recommend digging back to the episode they did after the RNC where they (along with old Mr. Destructo guy Dan O'Sullivan) observed that something really dark was accumulating and that all the pieces were in place for a Trump presidency, but it wouldn't happen because Hillary would eke it out in the end. Then listen to the one right after the election.

At work I used to listen to 670 all day so now that gap is filled with podcasts. I'd say Zero Blog Thirty, PMT, and NLU I won't miss an episode but the rest are occasional.

Not sure if all the episodes in the series are still freely available but I would recommend the World War I entries very highly. Just be prepared for some real grizzly shit. Certainly not something you want to listen to if you aren't in a great place on a given day.

If you like Hardcore History and Game of Thrones, you should check out Hardcore Game of Thrones. It is a podcast of the history of westeros done in the style of hardcore history. It is really good and the guy who is doing the imitation of Dan Carlin even works in a 'Genghis Khan'

Yeah, his take on the thing is great. He's got every mannerism down and still provides content.

The actual Hardcore History of the WWI is amazing. Can't recommend it more highly. The Genghis Khan one is great too. They are all great.

podcasts are perfect during runs. usually between 40-70 minutes.

I tend to plan the distance of my runs based on the length of the podcast I choose to listen to.

My guys Sheffield's have a weekly podcast talking beer. They've had interviews from Lagunitas, Bell's, Goose Island, etc.

This week......FRED HUEBNER

The audio quality and production value isn't good but Sheffield's is my favorite bar in Chicago so I listen every week.

The commemorative plaque near the fireplace signifying the exact place/time is a nice touch. I tell the GF I've communicated with that guy via a messageboard.

They got rid of the statue?

That's a shame.

Puckin Hostile's Blackhawks Shoutcast
Red Line Radio (Barstool's Chicago Baseball podcast)

Maybe it's just me, but for me there has been a precipitous decline in quality over the past few months. Hoping ep 500 breaks Scop out of a slump.

I haven't been listening to CBB lately.

Too much other stuff. I do try to catch the Time Keeper episodes, though.

In driving back roads from Eureka to Ottawa yesterday I caught up on my CFMB podcast and listened to an Orvis one that was about ruffed Grouse. I would have killed as many ruffed grouses as it would take to avoid that podcast with a Cubs game.

Awesome.

The 3 GoT shows a week will be good to get me through the week.

Good show. However, Barstool is still terrible.
