Speaking of the Ozymandias episode, on the producers/editors podcast they said that the chessboard at the firehouse was set up in a specific way, where the king was in an inevitable checkmate in five moves. While it was extremely unlikely a viewer would have picked up on that, I thought it was an interesting touch.

I think Jack did a great job in that episode as well. "Looks like we did you a solid" and "Simmer down there, Sparky" were the textbook definition of comic relief for the extreme tension of that scene. The producers also mentioned they had to get special permission from the writers guild to push back the opening credits to the second act because they would've interfered with the opening scene.

We know. You've now said this three times.

Should go in the CFMB quote thread.

Idk that it's boring FF, as much as they didn't know exactly what they were creating. The first season's tone is a little bit more goofy than a lot of what follows. I've rewatched the last season, but I think I need to go back to the beginning.

They had to set the story up. This series would've been ridiculous and stupid if season 1 included Walt poisoning kids, running over drug dealers, and making badass speeches about how dangerous he is.

I don't remember the name of the episode but episode 3 of season 1 is one of my favorites.

Is that the one where he finally kills Krazy 8 because he notices the piece of shattered plate missing? Yeah that's a great one.

I think Cheers was dead last in the ratings its first year.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it's not guaranteed a show will be renewed from season to season, and that can greatly affect the story arc the producers and writers have envisioned (especially for a serial dramatic show).

LOL that was the original plan before they found out they were renewed right?

Not quite. I think season 1 ended with Skyler finding out about Walt though. Gilligan said the writer's strike was the best thing that ever happened to the show though, because it gave them a lot more time to think about the direction they wanted to go and pace it out more evenly

They almost ended after season 4 with Walt saying "I won".

And that would have been great. But look what was close to being missed.

I was with you. I didn't start watching BB until the whole thing was done. Prior to that it was all movies for me. Decided to give BB a try after searching for "best TV series" and seeing BB pop up all over the place, along with the wire and a few other shows. Got totally immersed and don't regret it for a second. Great acting, writing, cinematography, etc. It gets dark here and there so there's definitely a case for not watching if you don't care for the more gruesome subplots and whatnot, but if you don't mind then it has all the ingredients of a great movie...spread out over five or so years.

Totally shocked when he did that...but he chose a path that compelled him to do that. He displayed that inner tension quite well. Cranston is the man.

It would've been borderline criminal for them to end the series without using Baby Blue. Glad they waited til the absolutely best moment for it. I guess I got what I deserved...

It was only a few episodes into the first season when jesse and walt tried to dissolve dude in a bathtub filled with acid and the body fell thru the floor right? Yeah that show got started quickly enough.

All in all, regardless if you dug the first season or not, I think everyone can agree by season 3 when all the characters are established you were addicted to this show. The introduction of Gus and Mike added so much back story and weight. I really gotta go back and watch this shit.

That was so perfect I was swearing at the screen to Vince Gilligan.

It was like he thought of that and spent 5 years building to it.

Yup. I remember the first time watching it right before the song came on I felt damn satisfied with the finale. Then the first few notes of that song started playing and I just started laughing. It was perfect.

Idk about that. Isn't a show supposed to try and hook you right away and not wait to see if they get picked up to tell their story?

I have been meaning to go back and rewatch this show again. Loved it the first time. I watched the first two episodes last night. Going to try and get some more in later today.

Walt Jr. was the worst. There were times I was hoping he'd die and Jesse would become Walt's "son".

Yeah
Really

And the dude was killed by getting strangled with a bike lock around his neck. Said lock was affixed to a basement pole which kept the guy there for, what a week.

And as Walt strangled him he was almost stabbed to death with part of a broken plate.

And, Chris, you are like 40 with 2 kids and you love professional wrestling. So you attempting to judge others' choice of television entertainment is quite a foolish thing for you to do.
