Farvio, you'll think that I'm as nutty as LTG, but he's really not that far off. But then again I grew up at a time where summer league games were better than most NBA games.
I know it's a different era now (Jordan played summer league into his 3rd year and other Chicago guys played years later). But even now you're watching generally better, older players playing with real money on the line.
Better individual talent on display, just most have no rooting interest so most don't care.
Sometimes it's playground ball, but in the gym it's more interesting for some than the overwhelming majority of college games.
Yep and know you remember this. 1995 Kevin Garnett. First I ever saw him play was in the Pro Am at DeLaSalle. Fresh out of high school saw him absolutely destroy Pete Myers. After that I told my guys he should have gone pro. Pete couldn't do anything with him.
It's in games like that you can see what a guy really has.
1st place I ever saw Antoine Walker too. 16 year old High School junior. You could see then that he was a future pro.
We've talked about the old Summer league before. That was when Chicago basketball was for real. You had to lace them up or you were going to be embarrassed.
NBA Summer League is a good place to see if a guy can play. There are some guys that have ripped through it who you know weren't going to be shit but conversely there are some guys that you know will be good.
