After talking about what minorities have to deal with, I kind of feel bad for complaining about this. My white privilege is on display.

Don't feel bad. Nobody should have to put up with that kind of BS regardless of color.

Pasty white privilege is the worst kind.

It's Friday afternoon. Shouldn't you be driving around on your mini bike in a Guns n Roses jacket?

To be honest, I'm still upset that I was unable to attend the Arlington event. Meeting bit players from the board like yourself is one thing, but missing out on a fellow board luminary like pittmike is a goddamn tragedy.

Around the 4th of July a few years back I was sitting in my backyard with Boyd and my wife and some cop came walking in my backyard shining his flashlight in my face accusing us of shooting off fireworks (we weren't). I asked him to leave my property. He said he has every right to be standing there (between my deck and my firepit) as it's easement and village property. I said it's not easement. He told me he has a degree in law enforcement. I told him that's nice, but you have no idea what my degree is in andets just say I'm in a better position to know the legalities of who owns the property he was standing on. He pretty much left after that I think. Maybe Boyd remembers better how that went down.

Don't you think the lights in the face is just an intimidation tactic? They may need to use the flashlight to see what's going on, but they also benefit from the fact that it blinds the person and sends them into a state of panic because you don't know who is shining it or what the hell is going on. I'm gonna carry a Maglight and shine it back at them next time.

regarding priviledge i think its all in how you are. i used to hang with a good minority buddy in a african american neighborhood (i'm so white i'm flourescent). we'd sit on the back porch and smoke weed pretty much every weekend. there was an alley and sure enough cops would drive up and down it. we'd watch them get out of their cars, talk with people, have people sometimes get upset and these cops somehow found it within themselves to not shoot anyone and basically be the same way that one officer was with me sitting on that bench. this is almost 20 years ago. i dont' know if thats changed but i assume that 20 years ago would of been worse.

i remember buying a probably stolen bike from a black homeless guy. but he just needed 10 bucks. our plan was to just take the bike to the police station and tell them we found it. as this transaction is going down (in this alley) a cop turned into the alley (its like midnight) and shined his light on us. the black guy walked up to cop car and started talking to the cop. cop started talkign to all of us like we were just people. even this crackhead like hobo guy. told us to have a good night and drove off. i'm talking downtown quad cities. i know its no chicago but its certainly a metro-ish area with bad neighborhoods.

if any of us had been assholes i think it would of been different. sometimes i've seen cops get treated like assholes and just sluff it off.

i would never want to be a cop. you pretty much deal with the scum of the earth 95% of the time and yes at times the other 5% can get caught in that and have to deal with attitude.

mini bike

When I was around 11 or so a friend of mine was begging his mom to let him get a mini bike. He borrowed one from a kid who had one and asked his mom to come out on the porch so she could see him ride it and see how safe it was. He ran into a parked car, then into a curb, and bruised/scratched himself up pretty good.

His mom just stood on the porch with her arms folded across her ample Polish bosom and shook her head as he moped into the house, crying like a pussy.

That pretty much sums it up. You had just come back from a beer run not 5 minutes earlier...had he been sitting on the other cross street, he would have been completely enthralled watching us smoke cigars, drinking beers, and shooting the shit.

He was a real prick. The kind that molests collies and steals ice cream from guys sitting in their cars at 1 AM in a motel parking lot.

I'm heading out for the week, Boyd, but if I'm back next week, I'm taking you up on that beer.

I got pulled over in Burr Ridge for expired plates. How does a cop even see that on a moving vehicle? Suspicious. I think I was profiled.
