Does anyone have a handheld GPS that they like? What do you look for in these? My wife is looking for one - I think she wants to run away from the family - so we have to be able to track her ;-)

I have a Blackberry 8800 with a built-in GPS. It's decent if you stay under 65 mph. Over 65 mph you might miss an exit if you're not paying attention to advance warnings. The navigation program subscription it comes with is $10/month. Mine is from AT&T.

Depends on the bells and whistles you're looking for. They all have the preloaded maps, text to speech (it will talk to you, 'turn left' 'exit here' etc, but you cant talk most of them), they have food, lodging, gas, and points of interest. The difference is the map display and how you are able to update them. Some you can update via the web with a USB cable. Some you need to buy a memory card and a card reader and update that way. TomTom and Mageallan are the best brands I've had experience with.

Coach, the telenav service is almost a waste. You can use google maps on your blackberry and its just about the same.

I use Telenav. Nextel phone, turn by turn, $10/month.
I have had great success with it.
Better than my last method. That Sextant begs more questions than it answers.

I use Google maps on my nokia phone and it works pretty good. I'm updating phones soon so i can download the new version with routing and what not. I would like a Garmin or TomTom that talks to you and does most of the work automatically for the car since i drive a lot. Frank, no good news on an Garmin St. Pilots or Nuvis?

I hope you found this helpful.

i just got a garmin nuvi 200 for the wife and it is good and affordable. easy to use, easy to read when on the dash, yet small enough to carry around if needed.

Garmin's are great as well. You really can't go wrong with any of the big three major brands. In what I've used at the store and in selling them, TomToms seem to be the most reliable, while Mageallan's are the most userfriendly. However, keep in mind most of the poeple who buy them from me are old folks who couldn't even play a CD if they wanted to, so I have to stay simple with them.
