I picked one up on Prime Day and have to say it's an impressive gadget. The Trekkie in me decided to use "computer" as the wake word.

We may not have holodecks, but between the echo (plus some automated home features I have like Hue lighting and Nest thermostats) make me feel like I'm on the Enterprise D.

Does anyone else have the Echo? I can't recommend it enough. I can even listen to WMVP on it via voice commands. example "computer, find WMVP on the tune-in app" boom I have W&S playing.

We have an echo and a dot. I don't use it but the family seems to love it. I'm more a radio/laptop guy.

We picked up the dot on Prime day.

Haven't set it up yet...

There are some nice Star Trek easter eggs. If you want some fun, ask it for "tea, earl grey, hot."

While not available yet, the Roddenberry family has said they have Majel Barrett's voice recorded phonetically and will make it available for such apps. I will definitely set that as the voice once available.

My dick would get hard the instant I could change the voice to her voice!

2 best uses for me

Asking about weather on certain dates "what's the forecast in Bedord Park, next Tuesday"

Setting an alarm for pops I put in the freezer

I just asked it that.

I also asked it what the best Star Trek series is and it replied "The Next Generation." I need to have a talk with my Alexa for not answering DS9.

Is there any chance to start an Alexa/Siri war?

I got one of these for Christmas. First few days I just used it to play Pandora and assumed Amazon spies on my mundane conversations.

I ended up buying a few "smart" bulbs that sync up with Echo. It's pretty cool to be able to turn lights on/off or dim them via Echo or your phone. My apartment has shitty bright track lighting. I replaced the stupid bright PAR bulbs with "smart" bulbs and now I'm able to dim them via my phone or Echo.

Sure, now Amazon knows when I'm entering my kitchen or living room. But it's so nice to turn off the lights in the kitchen from my bed when I'm going to sleep. Lazy American FTW!

I have the Dot. I ended up ordering another Dot a few days after Christmas b/c I was yelling at the Echo in the kitchen from the living room.

I like the smaller size. It obviously doesn't have the volume of the normal Echo but I sync the Dot to my Bose Bluetooth speaker anyways for better sound.

I've finally picked up an Echo Plus and some Philips Hue lightning. I'll see how this goes before looking at a thermostat, Echo Dots, and other nonsense. Still not 100% "into" a smart home but we'll see. Maybe I'll eventually appreciate the convenience and 'cool factor.'

I still only use my Echos for lights and Pandora as I live in an apartment. My favorite feature has been the ability to dim lights. It's really nice in the mornings.

I like it for listening to music while working in the kitchen, and being able to yell at it to put stuff on my shopping list. I have no use for it otherwise....we have a dot.

Pretty much this. Be prepared for your sweet Alexa to testify against you in court.

Fuck this big brother smart house shit. I'd rather move to a yurt and start making mail bombs.

Yeah, that could be a possibility.

I hate tablets actually. I'll probably never own what essentially is a slightly bigger, less convenient, less mobile phone...with no cellular capability.

Tablets can have cellular connectivity if you want it.

I love my 2 year old Galaxy Tab A tablet. It is the perfect size for reading on an airplane when I'm on the road, and at home I use it as the main interface for my podcasts, music, games and porn. It's much better for playing Clash Royale than my phone.
