Correct on both accounts. I think there was also the desire to make a no-sugar Coke that was (allegedly) more marketable to men ... Diet Coke ended up being viewed as a woman-targeted product. Don't ask me about it, talk to Coke's marketing people on that one.

That first statement doesn't seem right considering Diet Coke preceded New Coke by 3 years.

I think New Coke was in the works and since they were unable at the time to make Diet Coke taste anything like real Coke, my guess is they introduced Diet Coke and were then perhaps going to try to somewhat retroactively make Diet Coke taste like Coke by making New Coke thereby making them both taste similar. Or something. Shut up and leave me alone, jerk.

Had my first Coke Zero Sugar today. Definitely a step closer to replicating real Classic Coke. Good stuff.

Tried Coke Zero Sugar today alongside Coke Zero. Coke Zero Sugar is smoother and doesn't have much of a "Diet" taste. While Coke Zero doesn't have the typical "diet" taste of Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi it still has it a little bit, but Coke Zero Sugar doesn't seem to have much of it at all.

Coke Zero Sugar sucks. It tastes like drinking cotton candy. Coke Zero was great. I don't know why they tamper with the good stuff. I'm switching back to Diet Coke which I only kind of like. My go to is Diet Dr. Pepper but sometimes I need that caffeine recovery.

I just can't drink diet colas or pops in general. The zero sugar and plain zero were still chemically tasting to me although better than Diet Coke. Probably just stick to coffee for my caffeine kick if I don't want calories.
