When I see this picture, I remember than a Dan McNeil was a Cub fan originally:

You guys are P1 - long time listeners, please list three (or more) reasons why Dan McNeil became a White Sox fan.

I'm sure others will correct me. I thought it had something to do with the collapse of the '69 season.

I specifically remember him saying that prior to the switch, he appreciated American League play a lot more and that slowly helped him switch to the south side.

Only one true reason... he's a tool.
C'mon who switches sides?

A good friend of mine grew up as a Cubs fan. The spring AFTER 2005, he decides he's had enough of a crappy Cubs team and becomes a Sox fan. He goes out and spends a couple hundred on Sox jerseys, hats and tickets.

What sense does it make to switch. He didn't even get to enjoy the World Series for THAT team at the time because he was still a Cubs fan then.

Now you know that if the Cubs have a good year and the Sox suck, he's going to want to crawl back.

I don't think that fandom is something you can rationalize. It just...is. I couldn't wake up tomorrow and say, "ya know what, I think I'm gonna cheer for the Mariners this year." It doesn't work that way.

Much like Tom Cruise, he liked beards.

He loved Bill Melton and Dick Allen.

Hello, pot.... it's me... kettle.

Timbercrank, you didn't exactly look like Brad Pitt when I saw you last. I hear you, though. Heading to the gym now to work on the 10 lbs. I gained after spinal fusion surgery. I'll be back to 205 ("lightest" since '99) by All Star break when I make my annual pilgrimage to Northwest Ontario with sons to hunt walleyes, northerns and smallmouths.

my level of fandom for certain teams has definitely changed over the years.

Man alive, what a bunch of clown bags.

I believe Mac claims some of his angst and downtrodden moods he has today on the '69 Cubbies too.

I jumped ship when the White Sox signed The Bull and Carlton Fisk myself. I thought... Hmm... Jerry Morales and George 'The Baron' Mitterwald - or Luzinski and Fisk. No brainer... buh-bye lovable losers.

The other side of 36 is a bitch too btw. Just ask this former pin-up boy.

Mac's boyhood hero "Melty" left him a little note at ESPN1000 studios several years ago saying he was looking great, and to watch the M&Ms.

Looking good Mackey!

I was a Cubs fan as a child. I remember watching my dad -- a life-long Cubs fan -- put his foot through a foot stool during the 1969 season.
I stopped my allegiance to the North Side when they traded Ron Santo to the White Sox in early 1974. My father and I had many great debates over the years about the teams. I haven't become a Cubs hater -- my heart wrenched watching the developments of 1984 and 2003 unfold.
Even though Ron is now bleeding Cubbie blue, I stayed true with my switch. Unlike Jesse Rogers, I didn't bounce back and forth from band wagon to band wagon.
I enjoyed playing Journey the night the White Sox won the World Series -- got drunk off my ass that night.
But I still enjoy watching both teams play.
Been to a few White Sox-Cubs games, and I've taken a few verbal beatings after Cub wins.
My father passed away last March. We buried him in a Cubs jersey and sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame at the funeral. I bought a Cubs tie the night before and wore it PROUDLY.

Was a fan of both the Sox & Cubs until the Madlock issue came up. Chose a side, never looked back.

But,...'my' team winning one has tempered the old distaste for the Cubbies. (Almost, 'we won one' but not quite  )

Bullshit. They've been "just starting" to work on a new album since 2003. They haven't been to Chicago in 8 damn years, and they weren't that young then. It pisses me off.

Never was a Cub fan, thank God. Though, I Ryne Sandberg was my favorite player growing up until Frank Thomas came along. Funny...once the Big Hurt came about, I left 2nd base and for the outfield in little league.

It has to be the food. Old Commiskey (and now the Cell) has way better food than the North Side Shrine. How can you pass up the Bertucci Boys, Churros, and the Little King Cream Ales back in the day.

Wrigley has churros now too. But they don't have Corn Beef sandwiches yet, so Sox Park still offers more.

More importantly... why does anyone give a shit why Mac became a Sox fan?
