The Yankees announced devastating news regarding their top prospect, Gleyber Torres, as the highly touted young infielder has been diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left (non-throwing) elbow and will require Tommy John surgery. Torres will miss the remainder of the 2017 season, though the Yankees note that they expect him to be ready for Spring Training 2018. (Recovery from Tommy John is typically shorter for position players than it is for pitchers.)

The diagnosis is crushing for the Yankees, who undoubtedly hoped to bring their prized infield prospect to the Majors at some point this summer. The 20-year-old Torres, acquired from the Cubs in last summer’s Aroldis Chapman blockbuster, opened the season in Double-A but had recently been promoted to Triple-A following a strong start to the year. A natural shortstop, Torres had been shifted over to third base, likely in order to prepare him for a summer promotion that would displace struggling veteran Chase Headley.

Through a combined 235 plate appearances with the Yankees’ Double-A and Triple-A affiliates, Torres was batting .287/.383/.480 with seven homers, 14 doubles, two triples and seven stolen bases despite being one of the youngest players in the Double-A Eastern League and in the Triple-A International League.

"Crushing for the Yankees"?  They seem to be doing okay without a teenager who has never played in the big leagues before.

Yikes, just watched him jack one.

Yankees fans are convinced he's a future Yankee...

For some reason watching Hunter Pence annoys me. He always looks like he's gonna crush the shit out of the ball but he sucks and has almost no power

Teams within 5 games of the 2nd wildcard spot:

AL- 8

NL- 0

Unless the NL not going to play a Wild Card game, there has to be 1 team within 5 games of the second spot.

The Bo Sox are calling up Devers. That Royals sweep really fucked up their pursuit of Moose.

Kershaw (lower back) and Strasburg both left their starts after 2 innings.

Adrian Beltre went 4-4 tonight and is sitting on 2,993 career hits. I hated him early in his career but I love the goofy fucker now.

The Nats moved Fedde back to a starter. He was a starter to begin the year then they moved him to the bullpen now they moved him back to starting. This is the same bullshit the Cubs did with Zija. Make up your damn mind and keep him there. Yo-yoing him back and forth does not help his development.

It seems like everytime I pull up social media there is something about another player clearing waivers.

Why is this a story? Every year we go through this deal. Teams put players on waivers all the time. Really means nothing.

Red Sox rookie Devers took Chapman deep on 103 to tie it up in the 9th.

Brock Stewart got the start for the Dodgers tonight and he just got a bases loaded knock. I really want to hate this Dodgers team but they have SO many players I like it's going to be difficult.

I'm sure if they end up playing the Cubs in the playoffs, you will be able to root for the Dodgers pretty easily.
