Took the 1911 to the range today. Upgraded with two new Wilson Combat 47D to alleviate some issues I had with the Magwell and a couple colt mags I was using (the were difficult to slam home as the bottom of the mag was recessed into the Magwell rather than flush with it).
The Wilson's were significant upgrades. Well worth the price around 30 a piece.
Shooting 3 inch groups at 50 feet now. The 1911 seems to be settling in nicely. Still only 700 rounds thru it so far so it's probably still breaking in but I trust it for my HD primary.

That's a pretty good group for a 1911. Maybe I missed it but what brand? How old? I assume you are talking about changing grips?

It's a Sig Sauer Emperor Scorpion. I was referring to getting new magazines.
I picked it up new a few months ago. Based on the serial number it was manufactured in December '16.
Yeah I'm surprised at how well it groups too. It shoots more accurately than my 9mm. The 5 inch barrel helps I think. The RSO told me to forget about 50 foot shots and stick to 20 to 30s. But I like a good distance when determining overall accuracy. I feel like anyone should be able to hit 3 inch targets under 30 feet if they know what they're doing.

Right on 30 feet. I was surprised by the 50 foot group though. Good job.

I practice several times a month. I'll put 300 to 600 downrange a month unless it's the busiest season like November thru January. To be fair I didn't shoot like this 10 years ago. And when I first brought out the Sig I was consistently shooting 3 to 4 inches low at 30 feet, still grouping but low. It took me a few days on the range before I figured out the difference in combat sights from the sights on my 9. Kinda stupid.

Not the smartest idea to brag about your weapons arsenal on a public messageboard, especially when you have a bunch of internet strangers over to your home every year.

. . . just saying - did you think that through, Darkles?

He got his first gun the day after you attended Lakemoorfest. That was not a coincidence.

Most of the 1911's I fired were in the Army and were obviously sloppy. I have a Navy issue 1911 from my grandfather that he had in WW2 but I do not fire it.

Thanks dad.

When are you going to take that fucking garbage out and fold those clothes?

You are grounded from watching 'Three Stooges' on late-nite tv until those missions have been completed, Mister!

Did some sporting clays today. Including a game called hunt and cover... really fun and exciting game.
Turns out I'm still pretty damn good with a shotgun. Went 40 for 50 on solo runs (wasn't familiar at first with the location and the patterns the birds took in the first 20 or so pulls) but my partner and i went 50 for 50 in hunt and cover.
Tons of fun. Highly recommended.

Took the wife out to practice with her new 9mm.
She's raw but has potential. She's shooting a bit low and left but I think this is a result of recoil anticipation. Once she gets used to that she's going to be just fine.
When she used my 1911 she was actuly much better. I think the larger and heavier firearm might have given her less anticipation of recoil.
I was shooting at only 21 feet this time around with the 1911. 200 rounds... all in 2 inch targets save one stray. Not terribly difficult given a static target at close range but satisfying nevertheless.

It's ok. I remember my first time out... had a massive bruise on my shoulder from not tucking the stock in correctly.

I've never actually fired a gun. I respect anyone's right to carry tho.

Just too much instant death for me.

Instant is the way to go bro.
I don't want to kneecap someone and had them kill me with my weapon.

This is true.

I have considered owning firearms more and more over the years tho, as the world has gotten crazier little by little.
