<<The Fire made a change in its regional TV outlet as well as its broadcast team today.
General manager John Guppy announced the WPWR (Ch. 50) will carry 20 games this season. Comcast SportsNet carried 11 of the soccer team’s game last season with WPWR getting involved with two late-season games.
Two of the three members of the broadcast team will also be changed. Fred Huebner, who has worked in various capactities for The Score (670-AM) will take over play-by-play duties and former DePaul basketball star Sarah Kustok will become the sideline reporter. Kustok had handled sideline duties in various sports for ESPN.>>

Perhaps Fred anticipates a reduction in his Mike North Morning Show duties?

This is actually perfect for Fred. He gets to broadcast a team that nobody cares about; a sport that nobody cares about; on a station that nobody watches.

Yeah, he's experienced. For the last few years, he's done a show that no one cares about with a host that no one likes in a time slot during which no one listens to the station.

God help him if the color announcer ever disagrees with him. Fred won't know what to do. He's never seen that happen before.

If it's anything like his home run call for Shannon Lumber, I'm sure it'll be great

I've heard Sarah Kustok is alright to look at. There will be 10 or 15 people watching these games anyway....

Hey! The guy got a gig that most of youse ears are probably not going to be exposed to. It's not like a HOF-type guy was going to make you watch Fire games. Let him go in peace and enjoy the extra bucks he's going to make.

Fred last week was talking about going to a soccer broadcasting camp when they all go on vacation. Guess this 'splains it.

I was amazed they actually have broadcasting camps. I can think of some others that could attend.

As someone who actually watches Fire games on TV it will probably suck. Fred called 2 Fire games on my50 last year and was adequate at best. It's nice he's a fan of soccer, but he's no play by play guy. The the guy they had last year, Kenn Tomasch, was just fine but he moved to Arizona I think.

If she wasn't blond I would not even be looking. Just ok. Certainly not good enough for me actually watch soccer.

Doug EP - I may be going out on a limb here, but I'm thinking that some may have a good deal more free time to live a solitary life in front of the "Boob Tube" ,as they to used to say, and the computer to rack up the big post numbers, than do most of us. Hell, I don't even have enough time to stand and wait for the late train, but I get your point.

She is also pretty good at her job.

Free time? 90% of my posts are at work...

All it would have required was about 5 minutes of viewing of a Illinois H.S. football championship game on any Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving in the past few years or so.

She is quite good at her job. Better than most.

Then that explains it. I'm either in Hawaii that weekend or sleeping on the couch after wrestling the turkey on Thanksgiving. So that leaves little time to watch High School sports. Your not J Hood's producer are you?

No, but I do post on Bob Sakamoto's ChicagoSports.com blog from time to time....

Well Badger, I suggest while you are in couch pass out mode that you flip on WCIU or MeT.V. or whatever channel it happens to be on, and catch a bit of Sarah.

Hawaii is a good reason, though. 8)

Actually Bob wrote an story about me in the Trib a ways back. And Sarah actually lived next door to my mother fewer years back.
