Dejong is not even close to a major league SS. He can sub there occasionally but anything more is going to be real bad.

Diaz has looked lost. He is a piece they need desperately going forward.

I still cannot believe they have Carp playing 1B. They traded the wrong guy to the Braves. Should have sent Wong. Carp at 2b and Adams at 1b would be a better lineup right now.

I dont think I have seen the Cardinals look so dysfunctional since the 90s

There's only one Carp. Marp has had back issues. Theory is 1B will help him grind out the season. His one year at 2B was kind of fluky defensively making him a FG darling. He's below average there and pretty much bad at 3B

Wong is having a good year when healthy, you are insane if you think he is anywhere near equivalent to Adams. Adams new ballpark suits him, as well as not getting jerked around in the outfield, which was a joke. Adams is a slightly better than average hitter that can only play first and can't hit lefties. Good pinch hitter though.

He's been sort of okayish at 2B and 3B. SS isn't a good look, but they somewhat surprisingly demoted Aledmys to get his head out of his ass. Dejong's plate discipline was questionable n the minors, but they pushed him hard. I don't see that improving in the Show. He's a utility guy for me. He'll probably be fine there.

They just started playing him at SS in triple A. The story goes that they went out for infield practice and there were 3 guys standing at 3B and no one at SS. The coach says oh yeah DeJong you're at SS. That's how he learned they were moving him there. I doubt he stays at SS but just the fact that he's there is amazing. He'll be more than a utility guy. He's gonna hit.

ST. LOUIS — John Mozeliak has been promoted to president of baseball operations and Mike Girsch was elevated to replace him as general manager, the St. Louis Cardinals announced Friday.

Girsch, previously the team’s assistant general manager, follows the same route to the GM job that Mozeliak took in 2007.

Mozeliak and Girsch will continue to work together running baseball operations. Mozeliak will just be doing so with a new title that did not exist in the previous structure of the baseball department.

Sounds familiar.

DeJong, Mejia and Luke Voit in today's national game

I think management is clear about the chances this year.

So Keyser

your boy DeJong, having actually watched him at short, I’m shocked how well he seems to fit right now with Aledmys struggling at AAA and in the buy/sell team predicament after the break. The only out and out mistakes of judgement PDJ has made this year was at second base, and that was more things like ill-advised throws were he should have just put in his pocket than an out and out blunder. The arm is strong enough, and he’s rangier than I would have ever expected.

I'm not sure what the meta is on the broadcasts because I mute the announcers due to McCarver and Shannon mostly, but his miscues are mental or not taking a cutoff which he will learn with more experience.

Sorry Apologist I just saw this. Yeah DeJong is really playing well. His name came up again and everyone was trying to figure out how the entire area missed in him. He was a 4th rounder and signed for $200k. Amazing

Well the reason i came to this thread was to ask what the hell the Cards are thinking sending Piscotty down? I don't get it. What purpose does that serve? Are they that stacked in the outfield that they have to send big leaguers to the minors?

No clue. He's said to have some personal issues that have dragged down his play on the field, but i'm not sure riding a bus in Memphis is going to help his morale. I did read that if he's down less than 20 days, it doesn't use an option and the minor league season only has 27 days left. He'll be back in a couple weeks I suspect.

I don't get it either. Are they thinking it "worked" for Wong and Grichuk so it will work for Piscotty too? That's an awfully dangerous precedent to set.

I see they're winning big at KC. If they hang on they're back to .500. Here come dem Cardinals......

Damn. Some crazy stuff going down in Cardinal world. They trade Mike Leake to the Mariners (????) and call up 21 yr old Jack Flaherty. What are they doing, Apologist?? Are they going after the WC or setting things up for next year??

Eh.. didn't really like the signing at the time. Leake has a 5.81 ERA since April 24th. The Cardinal got about 2 years of average-ish performance out of him as a #4-5, I'm fine with that. He can't get through the lineup a third time. I wonder if the Mariner realizes that a lot of his value was from hitting and defense. We won't really understand this move until we see what they do in the offseason. Lot of money coming off the books in the next two years. Weaver and Flaherty may be ready, we'll see what they do down the stretch

Didn't take long for Cardinal players to start pointing fingers for their failure to make the playoffs. It's the new guys not doing it the Cardinal way! Even that WS champion Dexter Fowler! It's his fault!

How pretentious do you have do be to call something "The Cardinal Way" with no hint of sarcasm.

Saw some articles about it yesterday. Found it sort of odd. Sounds like a real fun work environment but shouldn’t the Cardinals have been aware of the zoo and circus dance nightclub clubhouse that Fowler was coming from. Wasn’t there even quotes from Heyward or Lackey about The clubhouse differences?

Yea, Wainwright and his 5.11 ERA don't care much for Fowler's .850 OPS

Seen them linked to Donaldson and Stanton, better stay away from both of them since neither was trained in Cardinal way

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Alex Reyes lasted just one start in his return from the DL before returning to the injury list.

The 23-year-old was placed on the 10-day DL with a lat strain, after finishing just four innings in Milwaukee in his first MLB action since 2016.

Reyes saw a significant decline in velocity over the course of the start, and though he allowed no runs, he appeared to labor through the latter two innings finishing with 73 pitches thrown. GM Michael Girsch termed it a "significant lat strain" for Reyes, who is set to see a specialist for a second opinion. The team expects Reyes to miss more than a few starts, emphasizing this is "not a minor injury."

That’s the nice thing about living downstate. We get Cub, Sock and Card games. I just love watching baseball.

Alex Reyes underwent surgery to reattach a tendon in his right lat today. He is expected to miss the rest of the season. #STLCards

St Louis fans down here are furious with Matheny for last night. Intentionally putting the winning run on base in the 10th inning to try and set up a double play. Then Ozuna dives for a ball he couldnt get and let the tying and winning run score. They have been ready to get rid of Matheny for awhile now, but they are about on the edge

It's funny, I watched that ending on MLB Network, and I immediately thought of you. I figured you would be very happy. Oh the pain of that ending.

I'm not sure that Matheny makes it past the trade deadline. If they don't make the playoffs this year, they are certainly not going to pass up Milwaukee next year even if the Cubs did a complete shitter dive.

One of my relatives is a Cub fan who lives in Peoria, and his FB feed is a constant mess of Cubs-Cards fighting, and this year the Cards fans are too demoralized to care.

I dont think there is any way Matheny gets canned in the season. Now if they miss the playoffs again I would expect him to be gone. He probably should have been gone last offseason.

I havent seen many fans demoralized around here. Most are pissed off at keeping Matheny and the lack of finding more bats and pen help to go with their starting pitching..
