His entire first draft is a botch. Maybe because he didn't have his full scouts in line, I don't know. 2016 is looking real good, same for this draft(though it's pretty sad Shaheen can't see the field). I'd give him one more hire at head coach.

I'm not sure. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky was by most indications the QB with the highest chance of success. It's not like he found Drew Brees or Russel Wilson later on in the draft. He also kind of screwed that up by giving up picks for no good reason.

Bit by trading up it shows that he saw something in (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky that made him just know that he had to go get him. The fact that they moved up to get him eliminates the possibility that it was a happy accident. There's intent there.

And if (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is the goods the picks don't matter. You laugh about it. If I were the Browns, Bears, Jets, Jags...any of the QB starved franchises, I'd give up my next five first rounders if I knew I was getting a true stud QB.

No matter what though we know the Bears had no reason to. He deserves the same credit he would have gotten if he hadn't moved up.

How can you keep this guy after three losing seasons with no hope for improvement?

Bullard and Kwiatkowski are not bad for where they were drafted. Cohen is more than a gadget player too.

Does Lovie even have 10 wins since he was fired?

Firing Lovie was a fine choice. Hiring a CFL coach as his replacement was not.

Amos is currently ranked as the #2 Safety in the NFL and Goldman is a rock in the middle of the defense.
The 2016 draft looks great. Lots of hits.
The 2017 draft (and Pace's future) comes down to (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky (and Shaheen to a lesser extent).

So far, his draft's have been very good. If you can land 2 core starters out of every draft, that's pretty good. If you go beyond that, it's a great draft.

Pace has made some good moves, but free agency hasn't changed the direction of the team.

I don't think it was understood how bad the current roster was when he took over. It was bottom of the barrel, the drafts had not been adding talent and everything needed to be blown up.

So far, Pace has rebuilt the bottom 1/2 of the roster and made the defense into a good unit (not great).

What he hasn't done is land play makers. Floyd could be on, (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky could be one, but impossible to know at the moment. In Triubisky's case, there needs to be a major upgrade of talent around him (probably 2 WR's, more OL help) to complement his development. Bottom line, they don't have enough difference makers. Next year's draft will be interesting. They will likely be picking in the top 10, but don't have many picks. Do they trade a top pick for more depth or do they have a guy (way too early) who can be a difference maker?

And yet Trestman would probably be better a better offensive mind to develop (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky than anyone on the Bears staff. He actually had a respectable NFL resume prior to the CFL. I seem to recall many saying the Bears' mistake wan't hiring Trestman, but making him head coach.

Kirkwood is correct. Firing Lovie was not the problem. The moves since is what has caused and is causing the losses to pile up.

If you look at the 2010-2014 drafts, I think they only have 3 players (including a punter) on their roster.

If they were drafting, even average during that time period, they would probably have 6 starters, and 3-4 special teams/backup types.

Pace seems to have stopped the bleeding from the drafts, but still needs to add top end talent.

They were set to hire Bruce Arians but did something to piss him off (that I am forgetting now). Imagine how different the organization would be with that one decision.

Arians has squeezed life out of Carson Palmer. I bet he would have been a big positive on Cutler.

Most coaches suck. When you have one that doesn't suck you better be damned certain you are getting a better coach to replace him.

The Bears were competitive in almost every game they played in. They went to playoffs, not frequently but they went. NFCCG and Super Bowl appearance in a decade. The team had leaders everywhere, numerous franchise-level defenders and at least one hall of famer. Best special teams in the league. Always a top 10 defense and by far the best scoring/turnover defense.

They had an identity. Other teams didn't like playing the Bears. Now were another anonymous blob with a Toyota Corolla for a head coach and a bunch of literally who dorks who wont be on this team (or in your memory) by the end of the decade.

They'll get it back but its going to take literally 10 years.

Didn't they make him do a mock post game press conference.....after he had just done most of a season worth of REAL post game press conferences?

This.

You can't go four years with only two players being on your roster. Most of those players are out of the league I would guess.

The problem is now he has to start over with a new staff. Fox must go soon.
