I guess he ain't good enough for The Bear:

http://www.thetenyardline.com/2017/09/1 ... er-gentry/

It appears as though Tanner Gentry’s time with the Chicago Bears may be coming to an end:

#Bears are releasing WR Tanner Gentry. They hope to get him back on the practice squad. It doesn’t look like they’ll be adding another WR.

— Adam Jahns (@adamjahns) September 19, 2017

Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times reports the team is releasing the receiver only two days after making his NFL debut. While Jahns adds that the team hopes to retain Gentry on the practice squad, it doesn’t appear as if another receiver will be added to the mix.

Gentry was one of the more high-profile names the team signed as an undrafted free agent last spring. While at Wyoming, Gentry was a constant deep threat and a reliable target for quarterback prospect Josh Allen – whose deep throws haven’t been quite as successful since his top pass-catching target graduated to the NFL.

Gentry, who made a name for himself during training camp, catching seemingly everything thrown his way and building a rapport with No. 2 overall pick Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, played eight snaps in the Bears’ Week 2 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He made his first career catch, but also had one of the team’s five fourth-quarter drops.

By releasing Gentry, the Bears – a rebuilding team with minimal receiver talent and less depth – risk losing a player with some talent and upside for nothing if another team picks him up.

The front office has already played this risk-reward game with Gentry once (and won), when they didn’t add him to the initial 53-man roster. We’ll see if they get lucky again the second time around.

Pace is a joke. No way he is qualified to be a GM but hey, he is cheap right?? Gotta be the lowest paid GM in the league...

It's critical they keep Deonte Thompson and Bellamy.

If this is a Pace decision, it's time to reconsider his employment. Most likely Fox has control of his 53, in which case you can tell Fox that Gentry stays. Force him to quit.

It's especially dumb if Gentry in fact has a good rapport with (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky

Yeah, the Gentry interview made it seem like (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and him were best buds on the team.

Pace is a joke. This whole organization is a joke.

I think he will probably make it to the practice squad so there should be no problem. Even if someone else offers him a practice spot, I'd think you would look at the Bears as the best place to send a resume for an aspiring WR. They may have five spots open over the next year.

If I'm a WR I want nothing to do with the Bears - I have no interest in essentially running track.

Got a personal foul penalty and dropped a pass Sunday.

And I only watched about 25% of the game.

If dropped passes are a measuring stick for a WR then Bellamy must be an unbelievable special teams player.

Bob raises a good point. The guy's name is Tanner for Christ's sake.

In a league with a DBrickashaw, recently retired, I don't think Tanner is bad.

Without even knowing what both men looked like, I'm fairly certain that a guy named D'Brickashaw would stomp out some pansy named Tanner 10 times out of 10.

Did not watch a snap last week.

I did see his amazing 7 catch 50 yard week 1 performance. And the however many drops he had last year.

So he must be great on special teams. And I did hear him say he's going to prove the haters wrong. So there's that.

I'm assuming you would rather have Bellamy than Gentry?

At this point, anyone in the NFL does.

Gentry wasn't taken by any other team when they had the opportunity to pick him up.

Oh, a December 2016 article says he's a great special teams player.

How about this year, since that's what we are talking about.

Seriously?

You got your question answered. Though it was not the answer you were looking for.

And no other team in the NFL drafted Gentry or picked him up the first time he was on the street.

Seriously. Show me the outstanding special teams stats this year that warrant Bellamy staying on the roster. Your answer is from a 9 month old article. Not sure what that has to do with the 2017 Bears.

And how many other teams than the Bears have a worse WR corps that would lead them to sign Gentry? The Jets?

Everyone knows what Bellamy is as a WR. Give someone else a chance.

Unless you can show me the great ST stats Bellamy has put up this year.

Right. The reaction in this thread is beyond over the top. Pace should be fired for this move?

It may be a mistake and Gentry may be slightly better than Thompson or Bellamy but this is hardly a big deal.

The point I am making is give the guy more than 1 game, especially that game, to prove himself. I also know every year there is a guy like him and they seldom make it but it seems odd given their lack of depth, that they waive him after 1 fucking game.

Cam Meredith. Undrafted Free Agent.

Not comparing Gentry to Meredith but it can happen.

As a Packer fan I'd tread lightly. They're appearing quite incompetent in stretches themselves

Of course it can.

But you don't cut an excellent special teams player who knows your entire playbook for a free agent everyone else passed on. TWICE.

They have Rodgers so they'll be fine, relatively speaking. They probably won't win the super bowl.
