you're a jackass if you think big zzzzz wins the nl cy young with santana pitching for the mets. i assume santana factored into your nlds prediction, so why not the cy young?

Why is this in the Sox section? There is an MLB section, and people do read it.

First of all, dont call me a jackass, I prefer asshole. Secondly, I think Z gets it this year, I just have a feeling he is going to have a better year.

im still waiting for mark mulder and tim hudson to dominate the national league, as was widely predicted when they went to the lousy-hitting NL. santana is a great pitcher, and may go on to win the cy young, but there are some hitters on the nl too. not quite ready to give it to HIM just yet, either.

Please never speak of him again...at the time I was slurping on Walt Jocketty, but looking back, Haren was far too much to give up for Mulder...that, and the best name on the Cards "Kiko Calero" left town...

I'm expecting him to have an ERA under 2.

Santana or Z?
Much as I root for the Cubs, Z has shown consistant inconsistancy in his short career. When he's good, he's damn near unhittable. When he gets a bad case of HUA, he can't throw the ball in the lake. Maddening.
Santana is excellent. Coming from the AL, he'll get the complimentary Lilly +5 wins in his inaugural season in the NL and run away and hide with the CYA. Santana should get around 23 wins. Z could get 19 this year, maybe 20 if the offense delivers abit more than last year.

santana is a great pitcher, maybe the best there is right now, but when you start penciling in a guy for 23 wins, 3 more than his career best, saying it "should" happen, that is assuming quite a bit.

actually, as i think about it, i cant think of any pitcher of note that jumped from the AL to the NL and got +5 wins. clemens didnt, pettitte didnt, randy johnson, mulder, hudson. im sure some pitchers have benefitted, but i cant think of any examples off of the top of my head of an AL pitcher going to the NL and just blowing the doors off of the league and winning tons more games than they had in the AL. yet it is always predicted.

Off the top of my head here's seven reasons why the Yankees will not win the WS.

1. A. Pettitte
2. C. Wang
3. P. Hughes
4. M. Mussina
5. I. Kennedy
6. J. Chamberlain
7. K. Igawa

Enjoy your season as much as Beckett appears to have enjoyed his offseason.

Picking the Red Sox not to even make the playoffs seems like a stretch to me.

AL East: Red Sox
AL Central: Tigers
AL West: Angels
AL Wildcard: Indians

NL East: Mets
NL Central: Cubs
NL West: Dodgers
NL Wildcard: Rockies

NL Champ: Mets
AL Champ: Indians

World Champ: Indians

It's the year of the Central in the AL.
I don't see how anyone hangs with the Tigers & the Indians.
The Red Sox 2008 will be a replay of 2005.

The Mets should run away with the NL.
They are the only team that can give the AL side a series in October.

True. However, he did so with only 8 losses, career high in SO and I think career best ERA. Santana, being the vastly better pitcher than Lilly and coming over from the AL, will have that crossover factor working for him as well and use it to devastating effect.

well, any pitcher going from the AL to the NL is going to have a good chance to have a lower ERA, just due to the pitcher being in the lineup. my only point is that you had said that moving from the AL to the NL was a complimentary +5 wins, and i am having trouble finding a good example of a dominant AL pitcher moving from AL to NL and getting +5 wins just like that. 23 wins is a lot of wins to predict, even if he gets the 32-34 starts you would expect from a top of the rotation guy.

that being said, he is a GREAT pitcher, and has as good of a chance as any, and better chance than most if not all, to win the Cy Young.

Plus, Santana will have probably at least a grand total of 8 or 9 starts between the Marlins and BRaves-- not exactly teams that knock the cover off the ball.

Zambrano is way too much of a headcase to win the Cy Young.
