Heard Mannely on Parkins and Meat today, and he was throwing bouquets at the front 7 for helping the secondary look good. I disagree entirely. The front 7 has been good against the run, but their rush is inconsistent. Meanwhile, I think this is the best man coverage secondary the Bears have had as long as I can remember.

Thoughts?

Difficult to tell for me. All i remember is the cover 2 from Lovie and a bunch of bad before that and a bunch of bad after that, so a good defense outside the cover 2 scheme is foreign to me. I guess even though the rush may be inconsistent still even the best secondary can be picked apart if the QB has all day, so the guys upfront must be doing something right.

Generally true, but there have been a number of times this year where the QB has had all day and still couldn't find anyone. Their man coverage is SOLID.

He also thinks Mike Glennon is dogshit....so I will gladly take that (from another actual player) and shove it up Jim Miller's pasty white ass.

Before you make your decision, just know that I pay for the All-22 view.

First play of the game could easily have been an 80-yard TD pass....the receiver had torched the secondary but Ben was just a yard too long.

Jim Miller was the first guy to really tout Josh Allen. Jim Miller is not a good talent evaluator.

They revamped the CB position with actual pros and drafted a safety who could cover. I think the results have been pretty good.

Antonio Brown is awesome but I think they did a nice job even on him.

Took the Bears on a miracle run to the playoffs in 2000 or 2001. Mike Brown won two games that year or something with clutch INTs. A-Train was there, even Terrell contributed I think. Miller did his job. We got butchered in the playoffs though. I think Miller left that game with an injury before the half.

Ridiculous Hugh Douglas cheap shot ended that dream season, and basically Miller's career.

I think it was actually a six point deficit for us at the half. Didn't realize it was that close. Shane Matthews came in and basically Mike Glennoned the offense into the ground, not that we had an explosive O to begin with anyway. The box score says our only TDs were a 47 yard rush by Ahmad Merritt and an Azumah pick 6.

The Merritt rush is mentioned on his Wiki page:

Quote:
Merritt is probably most remembered for his 47-yard touchdown run on a reverse in the Bears 2001 divisional playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles (the last offensive touchdown scored for the Bears scored in Old Soldier Field).

That was a great year, but the Bears never had the offensive firepower to do anything. Every bounce went their way during the year, leading to that 13-3? record. That was the Keith Traylor touchdown year. The defense was outstanding, and Urlacher had 1,000 pounds of beef in front of him to make sure he never got touched. He was amazing that year. McNabb picked them apart in that playoff game.

Hugh had it right. He should have paralyzed that brainless twat Miller though...probably his only regret.

I think he's got a few more regrets. I didn't know he called ESPN's Michael Smith an Uncle Tom at some black journalist convention which almost led to a fight. This resulted in his firing from Sports Disney back in 2014.

Plus he was charged with a domestic the same year.

Meh, he was only a long snapper so you'll have to forgive him for not being able to identify what's going on out there and why.

Both have looked decent imo, and I wouldn't put one further above the other. The front 7 and the secondary deserve equal amounts of credit imo

Yup, every bounce did go their way. The Brown INTs were epic. I remember listening to one of those INTs on the radio while driving home from work. Once he scored I let my meatball out and slapped the radio console in disbelief/excitement. That was probably the last time I felt like a true fan if there is such a thing...now I'm just a cynic and a douche, and a fair weather one at that.
