Been open since 2015 but just found out about it watching "Chicago's Best"

Picked as serving the "Best Hamburger in Chicago".

3 locations.
http://www.kumasschaumburg.com/

Positives:
Great service (waiter was super friendly)

Food (Poppers were ok but my BlackSabbath burger was fantastic)

Beers ( 32 homegrown beers but I told the waiter bring me something that tastes like Budweiser...LOL) He did, nice selection of beers though.

Negatives:

Communal seating...a little to close to people I didn't walk in with.
Decor: Meh...I wanted more Heavy Metal memorabilia and not some drawings by the staff on the walls.

Yeah, the seating is fucked up. there's basically zero separation between tables.

went to schaumburg location for lunch a few months ago, was really weird seeing the lunch burgers as they were a 1/4 of the size of the dinner menu ones.

if you can just tolerate the loud heavy metal music the food is worth it.

my wife and I used to enjoy securing bar seats at the belmont location. it was always a fun game trying to find people at the bar who were finishing up their meals so you could stand behind them and immediately steal their seats.

I go usually once a month with the woman since we're both metalheads. We usually go late at night because the seating is definitely a cluster fuck so you get more space to yourself late at night. Also, they play death metal instead of music videos when it's late, which we prefer.

I always get the fried pickles and my go to burger is the Pantera. Tasty. I tried the Slayer for the first time last weekend. It was just okay.

There are a lot of good burger places. Pass.

Never been to the one in Schaumburg, but I assume its the same.

Burgers are great, but I hear the quality has gone down a bit. I haven't been in 2-3 years, hard to go to Kuma's when I can just drive another 10 minutes and hit up Red Hot Ranch which has no line, is cheaper, and has arguably better burgers (albeit completely different...similar to comparing deep dish to thin crust).

Red Hot Ranch is glorious.

Easily the best burger in Chicago when you factor taste, price and availability/convenience

I love metal, but it would be better if they'd mix up old / new. When I went it was all newer metal and it gets stale after 3 songs.

The one on Belmont gets way more obscure with the musical selections. I guess they wanted to keep it mainstream for the suburb people.

Wife and I ate at this location Sunday.

I'm really glad we've visited the original location once, but this was clearly a more comfortable environment to have a burger.

High On Fire with Spiteful IPA. Fantastic.

The only rule at Red Hot Ranch is cash only, but they do have an ATM on site.

Its what happens when you college educated restaurant workers secure a bit too much influence on company communications. Most of it is just contemptuous jabs at customers while deifying the staff. Never been before, never will go.

Did not realize this place was any good. Live down the street from the one on Ashland. Seen cash only and walked out. Figured it was some shit hole that didn't want to pay the CC fees. Ill have to try it now.

Agreed. Nice to see a completely unpretentious, good quality burger spot

That's a really odd perspective.

When I see a cash only restaurant I think the place must be really good if they can afford to turn their back on people with only credit cards, especially now when so many people don't even carry cash.

Went to an amazing fish fry place in Wisconsin. Cash only. Place was packed to the gills (pun!) and there were 50 people waiting for tables.

Can't remember ever seeing a cash only restaurant that wasn't great.

EDIT: When you go there get the RHR double with cheese. The sauce is great.

Or maybe it helps them keep their prices more reasonable since they are not paying CC fees.

Don't know if it still is (won't go) but Yak Zies in Wrigleyville was cash only and was bad.

Yes maybe cash-only holds prices down by a couple percent. But people spend more (and tip more) when they can use a credit card, plus handling cash can be a pain and a security risk. Unless a place is trying to hide income I feel they are better off taking plastic.

Yup.

Cash only usually means a great place.

Someone please contact Marilyn vos Savant STAT and have her explain how not taking credit cards directly correlates to cooking and serving excellent food.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I have had some good but mostly bad with cash only places. So I was biased.

I agree with this. There are some cash only gems.

I was there Sunday. They took a card.

I've always liked the wings there. I hadn't been there in a while but they still held up for me.

The ambiance sucks. The original Kuma's is a shit hole dive bar(the way it should be). The new(Schaumburg) one is next to a fucking Fidelity Office and Starbucks for christ sake.

Why did you call an ambiance? Were the wings too hot?

I think the location is great. You can head right to the mall or check out Nordstrom Rack!
