If North had his track record, his contract renewal would be a slam dunk. Basically been his own man, in his own slot since the beginning. Pick ANY other Score host in their own slot like Murph has been for his entire career and I'll show you someone's career that ended years ago.

Murph prepares for each show has great guests that KNOW something and I do feel like I learn something when I listen to his show.

Seems that he might now be able to coexist with a real sidekick, thats why Fred worked so well with him.

Murph is corny and he is a nerd. I find the old style music, use of sound bites and his voice to be utterly annoying.

Content wise, the show is ok. To explain about Drinky's problems with Murph in the past, someone on this board a while ago who supposedly was "in the know" claimed Drinky's work ethics back while producing for Murph were bad - and that he has since improved. I remember that person saying that Drinky probably should have been fired back then.

I tend to agree that Murph might not be the nicest guy off air, but his shows are not horrible and he has real passion, and that is something I don't get from North, Boers or Bernstein.

that is because he aims to please the lowest common denominator. its very easy to get ratings when your show is "hey, if you call in, you get on the air in a big market! and no matter how retarded whatever you say is, i'll just go 'hmm' 'yeah' 'hmm' 'mmhmm' 'yeah' 'right' 'eh' on top of your talking and then close with the popular 'i like your angle!' and go to the next dimwit who somehow managed to learn how to use a phone..."

on top of all that, the zany sound effects, the "things were much better in the old days" crap...the whole schtick...its lame and a weak attempt at masking the fact that his show has nothing to offer of substance

voice of the fan is code for voice of the retarded guy who has trouble expressing his mind via email or phone.

imagine that, a show where someone can call in, voice an opinion, and not be torn to shreds and ridiculed by the host(s) when that opinion isnt brilliant enough. what a concept. there is no room for courtesy when it comes to talking to your callers on a radio phone-in show!

That may be one voice of the fan. I would not be so quick to dismiss an entire listenership, especially given the demographics that the SCORE normally has as listeners.

IIRC the typical SCORE listener is a male, in his 40's, with an education and an upper five figure income.

The problem is 99.9% of a listening audience doesn't call in. Pandering to callers makes for a bad listen. My view is the best shows have guests on who are know the subject they are talking about and have strong opinions -- even if they are contrary to the host's opinion. Most hosts would much rather take a call from someone who agrees with them though. Murph especially.

murph has guests, he takes a lot of callers too. i hear him disagree with callers a lot, i dont sense him only taking favorable calls. the thing is, when someone does disagree with him, murph doesnt call him a meatball and hang up on him and giggle about it with his producer on the air. one thing about him, is he keeps it moving, and really does try to pack a lot into each show. does he know every topic inside and out? of course not. does every caller have an opinion that i agree with, or even make sense? no. but he keeps it moving, he gives each caller his minute or 2, and then he is on to the next thing. he cant control who calls, but at least he can treat that person with some respect. as for him being a bad listen, i disagree. there is a reason he is still on the score after all these years - he has an audience. and during baseball season, he is the best show on the score.
