Big clean out your cube day here at work. Bring in pizza at lunch and everything. All the product managers are cleaning out their cubes and
storage spaces and tossing samples and prototype stuff into bins. Picking through it and getting some pretty nice stuff for my garage.

I didn't even know Jake's was still open. Every time I drive by there I don't see a single car in the parking lot. I figured it shut down.

But Maciano's > Jake's, so it doesn't really matter to me.

if they have a comparable lunch buffet for $8.99 i'm all for it...it's actually closer too.

we also have a rosati's opened up, stone's throw away. haven't checked it out yet...used to be a carousel of diner's that failed.

Had to use a majority of my vacation time this year to be in North Carolina with my brother in his final days. My wife and I booked a
trip to Mexico for February this weekend, nice to be able to have something to look forward to finally.

Just you and the missus? Nice......

I still love going anywhere, even with the kids, but goddamn, if I could get a sitter for just a week.....

I settle for weekends these days. Started talking about a trip someplace warm and got the well I’m sure the kids would love it from the wife. I guess it’s come to the point where even thinking about getting a week away is a pipe dream due to past sitter problems.

A few years ago, I got my wife to go to Key West over MLK weekend without the kids for a 1/2 marathon (she's a runner). We've been going back every year since. Three days in the warmth without kids is enough to re-charge.

Still going back in 2018? I thought it got pretty damaged during the hurricanes this year.

Yep. The place we're staying at suffered only minimal damage and is already back up and running. Most businesses are back open already as well. They (Key West) officially "re-opened" to tourists on Oct 1st.

The keys a little to the north took the direct hit and are still digging out though.

This past Saturday United and American were offering basic economy to Miami ($49 r/t in January and February). If you can pack for a couple days in a small tote - could make for a cheap getaway during the worst of the winter.

And weekends aren’t often since I have to work most weekends and take my off days mid week. Oh well.

Luckily my kids are almost to the point where I can leave them behind without sitter for a while. I’m trying to decide that magic age. Thinking when I was a kid it was when my brother could drive.

My son got to run the bases at Wrigley in August and tomorrow he gets to go on the court before the Bulls game. It was his first Cubs game and this will be his first bulls game... fucking lucky kid haha.

The glory of competition at Northeastern Illinois University! Hopefully they get divisioned well, sometimes in SO sports where there aren't a wealth of teams participating you end up getting curb stomped. Hopefully your team will be the one doing the curb stomping!
