The only thing I can remotely.think of is that the ref thought the Hawks knocked the puck back into the zone themselves?

As someone who has played hockey and knows the rulebook, the refs got the call right on the review.

While Zucker enters the zone ahead of the puck, it is Seabrook's skate which propels it into the zone and not Zucker or another Wild. Thus the play is officially onside as any attacking player in the zone becomes onside if the puck enters after being put in by a defending player.

It sucks, but that goal is 100% on Seabrook and the refs did get it right.

Foley saying that is not the explanation from the ref though. Saying Wild player maintained control.

Didn't look to me that Seabrook intentionally brought the puck into the zone, just that it hit off his skate.

From rule 83.1:

If a player legally carries or passes the puck back into his own defending zone while a player of the opposing team is in such defending zone, the off-side shall be ignored and play permitted to continue.

I tend not to trust Foley for analysis. that's where you really need Eddie O in the booth as he would've known what was up. Foley is too busy trying to crack a stupid tree-tirty-tree joke probably.

It wasn't Foley's analysis versus reporting the ref's purported explanation, but otherwise I agree with you.

Legally carries is obviously the key here. I guess the puck fortuitously being knocked off your skate constitutes legally carrying the puck.

Q ain't buying that the rule applied in this instance.

That was a beauty. Foligno should have worried more about protecting his face than getting Hayden's helmet off.

Do other good teams get cocky and play with a lack of intensity and urgency as much as the Blackhawks?
