Just like MANY ignore Bonds, Clemens, McGuire, Sosa, Frank Thomas, etc... because they were juicing, it's only fair to do the same for this series because of the juiced/shiny baseballs. If I'm ever stranded in Cooperstown and have no place better to go than the HoF, I better not see any references to the 2017 series. Thank you.

Yep . Bullpens are shit, “best” ’ starters can barely go 5 anymore . Catfish Hunter is spinning in his grave .

The other World Series that Houston played in was forgotten, why not this one?

Is that the story- the balls are juiced this year? I ask sincerely. I thought it was launch angles.

They've been saying all year the balls are juiced. The World Series baseballs also being fucked up is a recent story.

https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/10/29/world ... ley-jansen

Quote:
HOUSTON – Pitchers and coaches from both the Dodgers and Astros complained Saturday night about the World Series baseballs—and this time the controversy is not just about liveliness. They say there is a new problem: the baseballs used in the World Series are slicker than the ones used in the regular season because of a difference in the grain of the leather. The slicker World Series balls particularly make it hard to throw a good slider, they claim.

I think the issue is the laces. That's what the pitchers seem to be suggesting. They can't get the same grip to throw their breaking pitches. A lot of guys this season have complained of blisters that they never had gotten in the past.

I had heard the laces were an issue earlier in the year. The launch angles seemed to be the predominant story.

It is aggravating because baseball is a game built on its history and comparability of eras. That is why the steroid stuff was so frustrating. I also hate the high strikeout and bullpen specialist crap that has creeped into the game.

Oh well, last night was the best game I have ever seen despite all the poor pitching and the length of the game. Just so much emotion. I will watch regardless because I love the game more than anything else.

Haven’t the rest of the playoffs been pretty low scoring, on average? Seems that the conditions last night, coupled with pitching fatigue, created a perfect storm.

The balls in that article do look a lot smoother. Why would you change the balls at this point?

Pedro showed on TBS how he used to hold his slider. When he played, there was room between his middle finger and the laces. With this year's balls he's on the lace.

Not sure why they keep doing this.

Not really. Dodgers-Dbacks, Yanks Indians, Red Sox Astros all had big scores.

Yeah, my perception is probably colored by watching all the miserable Cub games.

Hahaha. Yeah, out of context, that is bad. Keep that kind of stuff out of the Kevin Spacey threads.

they've clearly changed the baseballs.

This is my 2nd favorite WS ever, and it's only 2nd to last year because #2016. This WS has been more entertaining than last year for me.

Very entertaining. Two of the greatest games ever have been played in this Series. Last night was an off charts roller coaster ride.

My favorite moment was Springer redeeming himself with that first pitch lead off shot after messing up the play in center. The Astros players react to positive plays like a group of little leaguers with raw excitement. It's refreshing. Joc and Keyke have been that way too for the Dodgers.

Note: The real way to spell Keyke comes up nut.

2014 was pretty great, too.

2011 was great but involved the Cardinals winning so fuck that.

Most teams do now, even the Yankees. You can thank the World Baseball Classic for that.

So many great baseball quotes in that movie. "just a bit outside."

That movie came out when I was in high school, and the baseball players had a Jobu display in the locker room.

Isn't this pretty easily verifiable? Baseballs wind up in the stands every game. What is stopping someone from getting a ball from today and comparing to one from just a couple years ago?

I doubt the juiced ball theory. I think it's the players just swinging for the fences.

The slicker world series balls are interesting though. That I could believe but I doubt the MLB is nefariously trying to strip pitchers of their breaking balls.

ALSO- perhaps the bullpen revolution isn't such a great idea. These guys all suck.

There will be bumps along the way as Managers learn how to do this.

Brian Kenny, the Bullpenning champion, would explain that you cant go halfway. If you are bullpenning you cant do the traditional thing of pulling a guy anytime he gives up a baserunner. You have to treat them more like starters and give them some leeway.

I believe MLB has a range of tolerances when it comes to baseball manufacturing (i.e., a minimum and maximum diameter, weight, seam height, etc.), so they are able to request balls be made toward one end of the extreme or the other and still be able to claim that the balls are still "within the specification" -- which makes it sound like they haven't changed even if they have.
