That's vindication for Mike against all the haters on here that said his show is a flop.

Feder specifically pointed out North and MJH as two shows that were solid among sports talkers.

Congrats to North. You people have to eat crow now.

Read the numbers more closely, boys.

Virtually ALL sports radio was up due to the buzz created by the Sox and Bears this fall. Rick Telander with a live goat in studio and Rob Goldman contributing reports on girls' youth soccer from his prison cell would have had increased ratings. According to Feder and Sherman, North went from 2.7 to 3.7 with men 18+. But, Sherman added that the Score middays with Mulligan/Hanley and Murphy went from 2.7 to 4.4. In other words, those two makeshift, half-shows had a bigger percentage increase than North. Don't buy into the Score spin that this was such a "great book" for North. They ain't out of the woods just yet.

I also like the way they're congratulating themselves now for coming up with the brilliant strategy to have Mikey "focus more on sports" now and that's why things are improving. That's corporate speak for, "Man, did we screw this up when we created the new North show. WTF were we thinking?"

Someone once told me that the ratings are flawed?

Not to mention that North does mourning drive with alot more potential listeners and only did a 3.7. While Murph and Mully did a 4.4 with most people in their office already.

No matter what Score management says North had another poor book. It just looks good because of his previous lousy books.

Considering the amount of money that has been poored into the show it even makes it that much more pathetic

Well, in fairness, I think the ratings are expressed as a percent of those listening at any given time, so North's 3.7 in morning drive could actually mean more total people listening than a 4.4 in midday. That's why I said the midday shows had a larger PERCENTAGE increase over the summer ratings than North, my point still being with all these new sports talk listeners out there this fall, I don't think Mikey's increased numbers were as great as the Score is spinning them.

You are correct, sir!

The amount of listners reaches its peak each day between 7:15 and 7:30 AM. The numbers decline from there, and fall off exponentially after 6:30PM.

While MVP is on an upsurge, you can look for the Score to re-take the lead no later than the spring book, which will come out in July. That is when, with a World Champs Sox team on their station, their cume or overall audience will increase due to new listeners who will be tuning in only for Sox games.

MVP will then be in a position to actually post a profit for the first time in about ten years. They have lost a fortune on the Sox and Bulls deals. This may also lead to more local sports programming for them. Maylead to...

I would guess that overall ratings for both stations will be down during the winter book unless the Bears make it to the Super Bowl. North will be hard pressed to hold his fall numbers, as will MJH. But MJH has a much better track record going forward as of now, than North does.

I don't think it is fair to say North had a poor book, but rather that all sports talk in Chicago got a boost thanks to the Sox and a then long winning streak for the Bears (I wish there was a away to measure the decrease in average caller intelligence as the book numbers go up).

The proof will been in the next two books. If the Bears do not make it to the SuperBowl and the scene loses some momentum during spring training and the early season games, who can maintain their numbers and who drops off. My guess is you will see B&B and MJH stay strong and see a drop off in North's show and in Murph's. Since those two shows will be losing listeners, Mully and Handley numbers will likely suffer as well. Hopefully that means that the 10-12 show will be extended to 2.

But then of course the ratings are flawed.

I thought it was hilarious that the whole North gang went out and celebrated the increased ratings at Gibson's. Guess they're not flawed anymore, huh?

Mike doesn't need much of an occasion to go out drinking.
