Indy Star had a deal where they picked IU and Purdue's best lineups for the last 25 yrs.

IU

Yogi Farrell
Eric Gordon
Calbert Chaney
Alan Henderson
Cody Zeller

6th man: Victor Oladipo

Purdue

Chad Austin
Etwaun Moore
Glenn Robinson
Caleb Swanigan
JaJuan Johnson

6th man: Robbie Hummel

Brick curious your thoughts on the choices for Purdue.

For IU, I would go with AJ Guyton over Yogi. Yogi was great, but I think Guyton was the more complete player.

I would also seriously consider replacing Gordon with Damon Bailey. But that very well maybe my hatred for the Sampson era

Hard to argue with the other guys. Kirk Haston would have be in serious consideration, but probably fall just short.

What about the rest of you guys...what is your teams best lineup for the last 25 yrs

I would agree with Damon Bailey over Gordon, Gordon may have had the talent, but Bailey would give you everything he had and played with bad knees too if I remember.

KU

Kirk Hinrich
Aaron Miles
Jeff Boschee
Nick Collison
Drew Gooden

I guess Wayne Simien is worth mentioning even though he was a freshman with a bench role.

He was there longer than 25 years ago 87-89 or so I believe.

But yeah he was a good one.

Did I misunderstand the thread? I thought we had to go with actual lineups? If not:

Gooden C
Hinrich PG
Collison PF
Pierce SG
Wiggins SF

Yeah I think I worded it poorly. Basically pick the best player at each position for a starting 5 and they threw in a 6th man for the last 25 years.

I think that would be my list. I never really got to see Brian Cardinal play but everyone loves him too.

If things go as I hope Carsen Edwards becomes the PG on that team.

Brian Cardinal was a beast. Hated that guy too.

Long list of annoying white guys from Purdue. Started with that body-builder guy - was it Scheffler?

This is harder than I thought.

I think I would go as a best 5, I'm going small -

Dee Brown
Deron Williams
Brandon Paul
Deon Thomas
Brian Cook

6th: Andy Kaufmann

7th: Damir Krupalija - he was great off the bench

Luther Head was my first thought off the bench but Kaufmann really was a scoring machine. I almost put Frank Williams in for Dee Brown but Frank was not the greatest defensive player.

He never came up big when they needed him. He'd drop 30 in a meaningless game against Western Kentucky or some shit and then give you 9pts when it mattered. His career stats avg is 14/3/4. Hugely overrated and he stuck around for four fucking years because he knew he sucked.

Weird coincidence but my 17-year-old just brought up a random Brian Cardinal story.

I couldn't go to the game because I had to study for a test the next day. I was studying and listening on the radio.

Studying was a waste of time. I was yelling to my roommate and then we just headed to the TV to watch it.

I was in the midst of yet another semester-long battle with crazy, but I went at the last moment (out of Iowa hatred). I never thought U of I students were a particularly warm lot, but that night there was lots of hugging and high-fiving going on. I think that's where I got my "Michigan Blows, Iowa Swallows" t-shirt.

Not a bad seat in that stadium.

That's the guy who was at basketball practice in Champaign every day since he was three years old and they let him go to Purdue so he could kick our ass. Typical Illini.

Brian Cardinal was irritating, but no one killed the Illini like Jess Settles. Dude played for 37 years, too.

Ted Kitchell seemed to kill the Illini. I was a fan of both back then, though. (I was about ten, I think.) Guy could bomb it from the outside.

For Illinois, I’m gonna mix it up a bit and go with the best combination but maybe not the best talent...

C Deon Thomas
PF Brian Cook
SF Sergio McClain
SG Luther Head
PG Deron Williams

Bench:

Jack Ingram
Marcus Griffin
Dee Brown
Brian Johnson
Kiwane Garris
Jerry Hester
Sean Harrington
