Fox is done. They'll keep him on to the end of the season because he's got a reputation and he hasn't done anything egregiously bad that warrants mid-season firing, but his time in Chicago is effectively over.

Who replaces him? Jim Bob Cooter is definitely going to get a look. Harbaugh will too, but that might not be done officially with the public knowing. Mike McCoy got handed a bad deck in San Diego and will get a second chance. So will Josh McDaniels and/or Jim Schwartz. They could look internally at Fangio, but his defense has not been as great as people want to believe this year, certainly not on the level of Lovie's squads. I would like to keep Fangio but I am not so enamored with his work that I would make him head coach just to keep him around.

I would go hard for Harbaugh. But that prob doesnt happen.

Hard for me to fathom having a coach named Jim Bob

I would guess McDaniels gets the job

Dave Toub. Need someone familiar with the dysfunctional Bears organization.

You know my thoughts on Harbaugh but it just isn't going to happen this year. His buyout is outrageous and he will make demands the Bears will not accept.

I think it will be Cooter.

The truth is nothing will change until, at the very least, Sweaty Teddy is sent to a very remote office location with his task limited to pondering the cost of pencils

No way Payton is getting fired unless his team totally collapses, in which case nobody will want him. Even the Bears.

With the defense the Bears have right now, this is not a terrible idea.

It sure ain't gonna be a qualified candidate. It's gonna be some first year dope or some weird ass guy from an Australian football team or some such shit.

Is Jim Bob worse than Cooter? I don't know. A guy with a name like that just cannot be in charge of something that doesn't involve tractors.

Doesn't matter. There are so very few good coaches that can transcend a bad organization. Those guys aren't going anywhere.

That’s a pig farmer’s name if I’ve ever heard one. Maybe peanuts.

Right.

The only reason they got the qualified Lovie Smith is because they whiffed on Saban and there were like 6 qualified candidates that year. They couldn't have screwed that up.

Josh McDaniels might be interesting, but I dunno if he'd want to take orders from anyone not named Belichick

How about they steal someone from the Steelers front office to teach them how to hire a coach. How many coaches has that franchise had in our lifetime, three?

Until this year I would have been pleased with a Toub regime. I'm noticed his special teams on every staff he has played on. Sadly at 55 just too old for a first time coach. He should have gotten a shot somewhere.

Does he want the headache? He is 74 and probably gets paid a million or two to play grab ass with Howie and Terry. I would assume he plays a lot of golf. That's a pretty good lifestyle.

I would be down with Toub. There are plenty of ST coaches who have made the jump and he is obviously a difference maker as an assistant. He also seems open to innovation.

He has already been eliminated from RPB's harassment pool.
