Shame on Fox for never showing whether of not the foot touched before the ball came loose or even referencing that. That was the whole play.

That would blow their cover. The NFL and FOX clearly wanted Green Bay to win.

Good teams (or at least better prepared teams) overcome those types of calls.
The refs would have just kept on throwing bad calls at us until we lost.

Yup. I’m surprised the Packers fans are okay with it. They didn’t even get a chance to legitimately beat us.

Yowza, all this unreal crying about the touchback. The Bears had half the 2nd quarter and the whole 2nd half to regain composure and fuck the Pack up. Who the hell let's freaking Brett Hundley look OK?!?!?!
MANY have said that it did not have a true bearing on the out come of the game. The Bears had zero 3rd quarter yards, and too many pre-snap penalties on offense to even count. I can't remember ever seeing a team getting a delay of game on an extra/two point try.

Its more so about one insanely stubborn poster who never admits he is wrong on here, being slapped in the face with the NFL rulebook that calls him (and the refs) out for being wrong, yet still refuses to admit it. SMH.
One stubborn poster, and apparently everybody on your FB.

Frank, you're a meatball. Just own it.
"everybody" was one person, and that person put his head in the sand and refused to address the rulebook link that was posted that shows he was wrong. Just like you.

Was there a shot that showed his foot touching out of bounds before he started to lose control?

The ball is out.

His right hand is touching it and he is out of bounds. By rule that is a dead ball.

Touching the ball is not the same thing as possessing the ball. When he had the ball, it was in both hands. In that picture, the ball is out.

Rule 3, Sec. 21, Article 3, Item 2:Loose Ball. A loose ball is out of bounds when it touches a boundary line or anything that is on or outside such line, including a player, an official, or a pylon.

When they first challenged the ruling, I thought it was simply for a better spot. It was clear he was down before the ball touches the pylon. I couldn't believe they called a touchback. Oh well.

I don't get how they can add new info to the challenge. Fox challenged whether he got out of bounds or not. Then they add the fumble/touchback to the equation. No one was challenging if he kept possession. What if they saw a facemask penalty that they missed during the play, they can't add that penalty on after the fact. It all just made no sense to me.

They shouldn't be able to change anything except what is being challenged. That's crap.

Why do they even announce what they are challenging if anything can be looked at?

When the ref announces the challenge, he should just say "The Bears are challenging the ruling on the field of everything that happened on the play."

The whole concept of a coaches challenge is stupid, and before Chus plays the "Stop crying liberals!" card, I've thought that for years.

Yeah, the initial craziness of it (to me) is because of the Bears, but overall it has nothing to do with the Bears. The Bears aren't doing shit this year anyway.

The problem is that the NFL is infuriating with some of this stuff, and it's gotten out of hand. The number of flags, reviews, and blown calls with no consistency is making the game worse. And they seem not to care to fix it. The review thing has gotten waaaay out of hand. They have to "challenge" to make a call right, and then they get screwed if the ref nit-picks some other little thing that is often not clear evidence to overturn anyway! It's just a random throw of the dice half the time. And it is making the NFL less enjoyable to watch.

Agreed. I've always said while I enjoy college football more that the NFL was better. I'm having a hard time saying that now for many of the reasons you have listed and a few others. The flow of the game is so much better in college and while bad calls exist doesn't seem nearly as bad as it does in the NFL.

The problem is that turnovers and scoring plays are automatically reviewed. If a guy's knee brushes the ground a split second before the ball starts to move, they call it down and not a fumble. Thats crap.

Nothing should be automatically reviewed. Teams get one challenge per half and they can use it on whatever play they want. They can challenge a spot, score, penalty, possession, whatever they want whenever they want. But they only get 1 per half and when its GONE, its GONE. Make the refs full time and train them better so they get the call on the field correct the first time, and the game moves on.

It's probably a bit of confirmation bias on my part, but they didn't seem to make as many bad calls on the field before the advent of replay. And it seems to be getting progressively worse with more replay.

No data to back that up, though.

There were bad calls that impacted outcomes every Sunday. It was a non-stop talk radio bitch fest each Monday morning. The problem now is, they review these plays, and then seem to get it wrong.

Yeah I don't know about right or wrong based on reviews (yesterday's was wrong for sure), but to BRick's point it absolutely affects the flow the game in a negative way.

The "not challengeable" thing always bothered me too. Why can't a particular play be reviewed? Everything should be subject to change, or nothing should be subject to change. To have certain calls that are and are not challengeable is stupid.

It absolutely does. It's kind of ridiculous when any time your team makes a big play, you can't celebrate but instead have to hold your breath until you know that there are no flags and automatic review has passed scrutiny. Makes it anti-climactic.

Exactly. I was waiting for a review on Bellamy's touchdown where they would call that a touchback because the ball popped out after he dove into the end zone.

An adult shouldn't spend more than five minutes stewing over a professional sports team's loss. You definitely shouldn't be lashing out at somebody who laughs at said team...the next day. The Bears have one of the worst rosters in the league, and a coach who can't even get the team prepared to try an extra point. Blaming the referees and lashing out at me is ludicrous.

After reigniting this nonsense, you no longer get to make the claim that nobody holds on to things more than me. You're starting to embarrass yourself. You and Wonder Bread were the last to realize that FF and I were trolling you. I couldn't not have offered up more absurd responses to you last night. I was literally trying to say the dumbest things I could, and you kept taking the bait.

Log out of the site for the rest of the day. Forget about the Bears and me, and come back tomorrow a better man.
