I realize it would kill an industry so it is not possible but the ball could fix so many problems. A simple "official" golf ball by a single company would really make it more level for competition. Then the authority could have whatever company that was customize for majors.

Golf ball does do shit. Still have to hit it in the damn hole and adjust your swing and clubs based on how it flies. Same thing goes for club shafts and club heads.

That is right. A great golfer must do all of those things with the same ball as the other golfer. Bonus you do not have to alter historic golf courses.

Golf courses need to be altered to make them challenging. If they weren't being lengthened, they would be made more difficult another way.

Why stop at the ball when you can mandate everyone use the same everything. It's just a dumb argument. No one wins tournaments solely because of their golf ball.

Right but this tangent started because of the idea of reduced flight balls at the majors. If you only had one ball brand then you could make different balls for different courses there by making them more challenging. Just seems easier to me. After all, golf has to be the only sport where everyone does not use exactly the same ball right?

They do not let the different pitchers on different teams pick which ball they are feeling on a given weekend series.

Screw Matt Lauer. This is the most interesting news that Tiger is coming back.

He has to be juiced. All of a sudden his back is good again and he's out driving everyone?

This isn't the most outlandish take I've read on the topic. And it's precisely what Bridgestone wants, which is why their biggest face is preaching it as well.

The biggest dissenter will be Titleist. They've held the top golf ball sales spot for years and will do everything they can to protect that image. Unfortunately, their biggest competition are the slew of independent golf ball manufacturers (Snell, Vice, Cut Golf, etc.) that feature direct-to-consumer pricing for golf balls that, in many instances, are better than the Pro-V1.

Yeah, I am not sure how they are ever going to get to this place where everyone plays the same ball. Some guys swear by their ball and I suppose in
some cases there is a difference for these guys. Hell in a perfect world they would do some kind of blind lottery of manufacturers and then allow
3 different balls be played at the 3 majors. Let's be honest, The Masters will be the last one to get on board or be told what to do, even though
their golf course may be the one that has the most to gain from holding the golf ball back. Titleist makes a nice ball but you are right that there
are a lot of nice choices out there for the end user. They are no longer forced to pay $50 for a brand new box of balls to get a high quality product.

Titleist is trying to get ProV1 prices for their new AVX ball that competes with the lower compression urethane offerings that are under $35/dozen. People really must love that cursive script.

I really like the Titleist product and usually play their balls as well as half a dozen clubs in my bag. I realize they have me slightly hooked
on their marketing but I fully realize there are a number of other really good products out there that competes with them on every level
from Driver down to putter as well as clothing, golf balls and bags. I still think that FootJoy probably makes the best high end golf shoe but other
companies like Ecco are in the same realm.

Old man looking decent early. Flubbed a chip on 4 that was a worry heading in. Drained the putt for par immediately after.

Hitting his driver really well, it appears. Just saw him blast a 283 yard carry with a little cut to keep it in the fairway. He looks like he's in his 20's again.

It went right of the green, but he just hit a 3-iron that carried through 230.

He’s got about 1 foot to go 4 under and 1 back.

69 in his first professional round in almost a year. If he played better than his +1 on the course's 5 par 5's, he's might be leading the pack.

Still, though, he looked pretty good aside from those handful of chunks around the green.

Tiger is like Mitchell (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky at this point. People just want to see something out of him.

I found a couple of Vice and played them for a few rounds and was impressed. Probably take a closer look this offseason to see what kind of deal I
can find if buying in bulk for one of the new balls . Usually I find myself buying a dozen pre-owned ProV's at my pro shop for less than $20. If playing
in an event I'll usually pull the trigger and buy a new sleeve.

Nice start by Tiger, would like to see him go under par two more times this week. He will likely have at least one stinker in the bunch.
