1. D'amatos bakery #1. The original is on grand near ogden by the marathon. Although more of a pizza bread, you just cant find anything better then what they have.
2. Geos pizza on the border of elmwood park and chicago near diversy and harlem. Sauce has decent amounts of pepper and a wine taste to it.
3. Pizzeria uno/duo downtown.
4. Sals pizza on algonquin in Lake in the Hills.
5. Sorrentos, near the same location as Geos, although i cant vouch for them anymore.
6. Liborios in river grove near grand ave. and cumberland/thatcher/pueblo/171/1st ave.

Armands in elmwood park is cardboard pizza, i think its absolutely terrible.

Mentioning Geo's as good pizza and Armand's as poor is just a travestry. I literally grew up a stone's throw from geo's, knew kids that worked there and we'd still order from Armands or Amato's.

As for Liborios, it's on Grand. Tony and his mom do a nice job with breads. Pizza bread and focaccia are good. I'm not a big fan of bakery style pizza unless it's from the Sicillian Bakery up on Cumberland near Lawrence.

For the most part, I've avoided Domino's -- that's until then introduced their Philly Steak Pizza. I don't believe they still make it, but I developed a fondness for it. There was minimal -- or no -- tomato sauce on the pie. They just used the ingredients for a Philly Steak sandwich.

MORE than worth it Hoffy. The wifey is from Taylor and Ogden and with out fail, we have a pizza from there every time we get back to the neighborhood. Shit, when I worked at the Twisted Spoke, we'd order one form there at least once a week.

Great Pizza. Im going through a Naples style pizza thing right now. Graziano's is better than anything I had in Naples.

As far as stuffed pizza, Nancy's rules, always has.

As far as frozen, I dont mind a cheap frozen sometimes, so Jack's is good. But a good premium frozen would be Palermos's. There 6 cheese thin is the closest Ive tasted to restaurant quality.

I'm a strong believer in Viccino's Stuffed Pizza. The sauce is so captivating that you will eat too many slices because you can't get enough of the sauce.

Not many people know that this long standing neghborhood joint offers terrific old family recipe pizza. They don't have the capacity to be a high volume purveyor, but their pie is thin, tasty, and fresh. You can get a lot more on the pizza than the list of ingredients - italian beef, roasted peppers, fresh garlic to name a few. They now offer a whole wheat crust as well, which adds a little nuttiness to the flavor.

I got to give a thumbs up to Amato's. I grew up having them in Galewood and have been going to their Glendale Heights location lately and they never disappoint. Went off the comfort zone last night and had a nice dish of rigatoni and sausage with vodka sauce and got a thumbs up from the Hawkeye Vince household.

i consider dano's to be the mcdonald's of chicago pizza parlors...although i don't have a personal ban on dano's. i don't mind it but if it's between that, and say, a local place down the street that is authentically italian...i'm going with the latter. and luckily for me, i have the latter.

i do love nancy's though...thin crust, fuggin awesome.

Cafe Medici near U of C. It is on 57th but I don't know the intersection. It is a Hyde Park institution that my father has always raved about. I just figured he liked it more as a way to recapture lost youth. I have had leftovers from their in the past and was not impressed. Well, I finally went there Friday. Great stuff. The peperoni slices they use have a gurth that would put John Holmes to shame. It was a little greasy, but they made up for it by cooking it perfectly. Good crust, good cheese, great toppings.

It really doesn't qualify, but I actually had a quite enjoyable pizza at the Rock Bottom Brewery. It's no Giordano's or Pizzaria Uno but it was enjoyable.

i had their greek pizza. it was decent.

when i'm at rock bottom i usually just get the beer & cheese taster or the mac & chicken. and an IPA.
