Is Waffle House national? It sounds more southern. Never heard of it really.

A lot of coverage but it is missing from most of the Union states.

You used to be able to smoke in Hardee's, like way after every other food chain had ended the practice. I remember going into one in the early aughts and seeing ashtrays on the tables.

Pretty much. I think that the closest to here is in Indianapolis or Bloomington. But it's nationally "renowned".

Edit: IMU phrased it better :D

thankfully, there's portillo's.

wendy's is good except they've never gotten the fries right.

I really liked Portillo's when I was there last summer. But I use to absolutely hate Portillo's back in the day. I think there was one in the Western Suburbs and I tried it and thought it tasted like shit. I was more of a North side hot dog guy, Flukey's on Touhy Ave back in the day. That place is gone now I think. Best Polish Sausage ever. I tried a Polish at Portillo's and they had the wrong type of onions and mustard on it. Wish one day before I die I can taste a true Polish Sausage like they use to do it at Flukey's RIP.

South Side hot dogs are totally different. I remember also back in the day I was doing some side work on the South Side and went to a hot dog stand and said Celery Salt. Guy laughed at me and said you North Side people are pussies putting celery salt on a hot dog or something like that.

Of course no ketchup on a hot dog. If you put katsup on your dog then you better hand in your Chicago card now. But that's a whole different topic/thread.

My wife and I used to hit Fluckeys up in 96 when she worked over near Old Orchard mall. I really liked that place.

This. Popeyes biscuits with honey sauce on them are gifts from god. Prices aren't bad. They have the best back of the receipt deal.

Answer their survey and get two pieces and a biscuit with the purchase of a large drink. The one in Edgewater is really friendly too.

Really? They just did a major rebrand to Come Zero Sugar. They had a big eveny with a semi and free samples at Loyola two months back.

We probably ate there at the same time back in the day but didnt know who we were then. We maybe sat side to side or back to back too. Like I probably knew JORR back in the day but didnt realize it was him since it was the past.

added - i found an old picture from back in the day @ Flukey's. Was this you back around 96 ??

only thing open at ogilvie for the last train out. you pretty much just get whatever they have left, but it's usually fries and chicken fingers. all good.

Yeah, there are a few around that haven't completely run out yet but it's basically gone. Nobody can tell me what is replacing it. So far the best answer was a fruit-flavored Sprite type drink and another fruit flavored drink. Apparently McD's is adding two new, undiscosed drinks.

A couple additions: White Castle (although it's way overpriced) and Checkers (good but messy as hell).

I miss Rax Roast Beef and Shakey's.

Arby's puts out a quality product but also over-priced.

I'm a cheap bastard when it comes to fast food.

Big NASCAR sponsor at one time. I think it is gas-station pizza.

I thought hunt brothers was one of those crappy ones that show up in gas stations along the interstate. Like Chester’s chicken.

Popeye's hot and fresh is a gift from God, the one on Canal St in New Orleans is probably my favorite franchise spot in the world. (But then again it better be given the proximity to the place they allegedly stole the recipe from)

Hardee's Biscuits and Gravy are not bad either -- once a year.

McDonald's for fries. Sometimes if I get a beef sandwich from Portillos to eat at home, I will stop at the McDonald's drive thru window for fries to go with it.

I love Chick-fil-A but can't eat it, as they use peanut oil and it really soaks into the chicken and I get an allergic reaction in my throat. Same with the fries at 5 Guys. When they went national, their burgers went into the crapper, the original NoVa locations were do much better.

In n out is the best national chain burger for me. For cheap burgers, I like them thin. (Nicky's on Archer and Austin being prototypical.). Order the fries well.

I have discovered that the cheesy bean and rice burrito at Taco Bell is a good 3pm snack as it is mostly tortilla. But it is only a buck.

I used to love Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich, but earlier this year they changed the recipe and it had gone to shit.

I eat a burger from Burger King once a year and always regret it. Their sausage biscuit is acceptable, but nowhere in the league of Hardee's, much less southern regional chains such as Bojangles or Biscuitville.

Waffle House... I actually prefer it for dinner as it is quieter and the food is made more carefully. Double hash browns scattered and smothered, large order of bacon, and extra drama from the trashy waitresses.

You fuckers should check out the Doughboys podcast. It's ostensibly a podcast about fast food.

I don't know what the hell happened to Burger King, but it's a shadow of it's former self.
Everytime I see a BK ad, I want to scream at the TV "IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THAT IN REAL LIFE!!!!!!!!"
They have a commercial with some kind of bacon double cheese and it looks amazing, but it's just false hope,
and the "WHOPPER™" is fucking tiny now.
Best fast food has to be Culvers.
Their burgers are the best, the chicken strips (especially Buffalo) are legit.
Even the Reuben is quite good.
And of course, the custard.
The fries kinda suck though.

You're right - I use to get spicey chicken sandwich at Wendys but it's total shit now. 3/4 of the sandwich is the crispy breading and the chicken meat itself is like 1/3 of the sandwich.

Burger king use to have a great seasonal sandwich called the Italian Chicken sandwich. It use to come around every 2 or 3 years. Have not seen it for a long time now. But when it's out its a great sandwich or was, don't know what they would do with it now.

Same way with Coney's double Clubburger. Texas toast, two burger patties with cheese and the onion rings, lettuce, tomato and the special sauce. So good.
