Mac,

the cubs or sox, playing early season games in milwaukee because the weather is cold in April? come now, have we really gotten that soft? agreed, the weather is cold, but that might be the goofiest idea i have ever heard from you! cold-weather baseball has been beng played for many years, and everyone has survived up until now.

it will be 40 degrees warmer than it was during the nfl championship game, and everyone survived that game!

This sounds eerily familiar to a conversation we had last year about this time. It was a dumb idea back then and it is still today.

Baseball is a pussy sport. It's a sport that can't be played in any weather conditions properly, so why not have it played indoors or in warm weather climates during the first 1-2 weeks. You don't want games called because of snow or sleet. Then, teams like Florida and Tampa Bay can play more of their road games during the hurricane season. Seems to make sense to me.

And this, my dear Friends, is how you know it is a stupid idea. Florida and Tampa can play more road games during hurricane season? This season starts June 1st and goes thru November. Should they play all 81 home games before hurricane season?
Mr. Angus, it would benefit you to do some research prior to spouting off nonsense like that.
Baseball cannot be played in any weather condition properly? What the devil does that mean? You cannot play when it 70 and sunny?

this is why i think every team in cold weather cities should have retractable roofed stadiums.

When I played ball in high school, there were several times we had snow delays, and games which the long johns were worn underneath the Spartan uniform. Its not the most enjoyable, but cold weather is just part of playing outdoor baseball in April.

You got me J.A.C.K. I had meant "in just any weather condition", meaning the weather has to be good for the games to be played.

Just play the games at their Cactus League venues until it gets in the 50s.

I think it makes for an interesting conversation that they should start the first and/or second week with games played exclusively in warmer climates or indoors:

American League (6 of 14 are in warmer climates or indoors)

East
Boston
New York
Toronto - dome
Baltimore
Tampa Bay - warm

Central
Cleveland
Detroit
Minnesota - dome
Chicago
Kansas City

West
Los Angeles - warm
Seattle
Oakland - warm
Texas - warm

National League (8 of 16 are in warmer climates or indoors)
East
Philadelphia
New York
Atlanta - warm
Washington
Florida - warm

Central
Chicago
Milwaukee - dome
St. Louis
Houston - warm
Cincinnati
Pittsburgh

West
Arizona - warm
Colorado
San Diego - warm
Los Angeles -warm
San Francisco -warm

Yeah it's not like in high school you could schedule games in warmer climates and we got by. Heck even in college at a scrub DIII school in Iowa we still had crappy games. I remember our Spring Break trip we had games at flippin' Winona State in Minnesota.

Get ready for button 48, but I'm still annoyed the Girls softball team got to go to Florida while we spent most of our time in Minneapolis playing at the Metrodome. It's cool to say I played there and that I pissed in the same toilet as Kirby Puckett, but I remember first walking in there waiting for our game and the Gophers were playing and the field was all light up and it looked like it does on TV. Our game comes up against some other scrub DIII team and I swear they turned 3/4 of the lights out and it was like we were playing in a mausoleum.

Seattle (Safeco Field) has a retractable roof.
Tampa (Tropicana Field) has a dome.

I hesitate to call San Francisco warm. I went to a game at Candlestick in July and froze my a$$ off. And the Twins will be going open air in two years.

im thinking back here over the last week...has the weather really been THAT bad? it rained opening day. the rest of the days have been from slightly chilly to real nice. the conditions have been fine. the debacle in cleveland last year with all the snow-outs is going to happen from time to time, but that ws a freak thing for the most part. chicago weather to this point could not be deemed "cold".

As a Sox season ticket holder for the last 6 years I can honestly say that my group has eaten about 20 games over the last 6 APRIL'S.I have tickets today which I'm taking a pass on and we had a rain out on Wednesday and tomorrows weather is no bargin and I gave away my seats for last night and the guy I gave them to left after 3 innings as his kids were to cold.

They should either move the season starting date to mid April and have the warm weather teams host the first two weeks of the season or dome teams and wait towards the end of April for cold city teams to host games. Double headers have disappeared but to keep the fans comfortable they should go back to having Double headers in the warm months to give the fans a better opportunity to enjoy the game in comfort and allow the players the comfort of playing in better conditions.

It's a crap shoot. I went to the Cubs game last Saturday and 1/2 of us got sunburned.....

from a fan-comfort point-of-view, what is the difference between being cold at an early-season cubs or sox game, and being cold at a late-season bears game? cold is cold, no matter if it is in the spring or the winter. i dont hear people complain too much about being cold at bears games.

that being said, i never go to cold weather games because the weather is ALWAYS good in front of my LCD. as long as the weather is dry and the game can be played, and people continue to go, i dont see what the problem is. i dont find the games to be any less enjoyable to watch. the players can handle it, it isnt like it is -20 out or anything.
