Just got into this over the weekend, while at a party.

It's an app you can download for free, and play for free. It's quick trivia, played twice a day - 2p & 8p CST.

You get 12 questions, 10 seconds a question, multiple choice. They start off deceptively easy and then they get harder as you go. If you get all the questions right, you share a pot of $2k. Goes right into a paypal account.

It's apparently legit, some friends had already made a few bucks (nowhere near the $2k prize). Nothing's at stake to play though...

Host is obnoxious and stupid but...it's pretty fun and addictive. I recommend. Also, try to refer people. You get "extra lives", meaning you can get 1 wrong and still move on.

The younger folks are playing it and giving me great reviews.

We've been trying it out at home. App is still glitchy as fuck -- kicked me out of a game after choosing the correct answer once -- but a novel concept and still enjoyable.

Yeah not clear on how they get funding.

They've modified a few things...and apparently Sunday there's a 15k cash prize.

i really am starting to hate the trickery with going from insanely easy questions to shit you wouldn't know unless you study trivia books. it's just shit nobody really needs to know.

i was able to successfully perform the extra life trick once, but it only yielded 2; then, 1 was taken away from me. then i had to use the one i had. and i can't do it again; they've wised up to it.

i really hate the hosts too. just bad stand-up comedian rejects. obnoxious to the max.

however, this will make a *great* "black mirror" episode.

Anyone know a good place with the NTN video trivia machines? I used to kick ass at the upstairs bar at union station waiting for my metra.

Apparently HQ was started by the same two guys who created Vine. Two upstanding gentlemen, in other words.

Also, just until recently there was a $20 mark winners had to accumulate within 90 days before they could withdraw funds. A lot of suspicion that HQ hasn't actually paid much out, which answers the question about how they can have a sustainable business model.

The business model only makes sense if there were to eventually be 1) ads, or 2) an entrance fee. And if either (or both) of those made them profitable, you would see a bunch of competitors jumping in to copy.

You could get a little more clever and have questions sponsored by companies and the question about one of their products -- it wouldn't come across as so ad heavy perhaps. I caught the founder and the host on CBS morning news last week and they basically said they weren't thinking about how to make it profitable just yet, just trying to work out the technical glitches at this point.

I'd totally bag that big chick with the cameltoe who gets hysterical in their Super Bowl commercial.

So I've been playing this with the kids the past week.

Tonight, with the 15 grand prize, all four of us played.

My daughter and I were eliminated. On the next question, our son forgot to pick a different answer than my wife. It was wrong and our son yelled "GOSH DANGIT!", slammed his tablet shut and went storming downstairs while screaming "IT WAS FOR 15 GRAND".

Another Norman Rockwell moment.

that was the biggest one-time payout i've seen yet. granted it was for $15k but i think even the super bowl $15k payout was spread over about a hundred people or just under. this went to 7 people, which mean they each made a little over $2k.

there was one night where there were so many winners, the payout was 19 cents.

there are times when it's fun and challenging; but i'm growing tired of never being able to get past a certain point. sometimes i know the last question more than i know the 6th or 7th.

That there were only 7 winners tells me all the questions were tough...since there are only 3 choices and 12 questions, you would think there would be more winners just by random chance.

Made it to Q12. Clicked the wrong button and lost. Fatness fucks me again.

Lost out on $2.18 but as I was watching to see the winners scroll by, I saw a Psycory. Perhaps our very own Pennsylvania professor just cashed a big ol check for $2.18. If so, congrats.

I've won about $150 from this so far. But not tonight, I was out on 7, I think.

I know a lot of useless information.

Maybe I'll give this a shot.

1-3 are just to weed out bots that guess randomly, 4-7 is usually pretty easy. Generally from 8-11, the one that feels most counterintuitive is the right answer (the one that got me tonight was arcade game played with handlebars, Excitebike makes the most sense so the answer was Paperboy), then 12 is something you know or you don't. But of course, sometimes that's not true, otherwise I'd win every time and get banned for winning every time.
