We now live in a world where public school students do not learn the fundamental lesson...that lesson being sometime you lose. Sometimes you lose a lot. Not everyone is a winner. To give ribbons to the 10th place kid and give him a participation certificate isn't right. To have baseball games where runs aren't tallied, to refuse to allow kids to play dodgeball, it's just wrong somehow.

Agreed - but this is the result of over-protective parents and over-paid attorneys (no offense IB) This is not a result of public school deficiencies.

This has a lot to do with overbearing students and schools that are afraid to stand up to them...and it is starting to creep into the college world as well, I was asked (told) to do an open house this past weekend and I was amused and sadly, not surprised, that I had 5 people come up to me to talk about the psychology major, all of them were the parents of the kids that were going to be coming to the school and asking how the psych major will fit in to their (the parent's) plan for what the child will do, and when I tried to engage the child (because I have no interest in talking to parents, and I know I will never have to talk to them again...if I wanted to do that I would have been a high school teacher) and ask them what/why they were interested in psychology and they didn't have an answer.
