Exactly. Rental car companies rent out cars to Asian ladies but not 18 year olds. That's craziness.

Not because I'm offended they stopped selling ARs. Because I'm disappointed they decided to use this situation as a chance to gain publicity. They did this once before as well, some may recall. And quietly just sold them again when the noise died down.
Screw these guys. Only thing worth buying at a dicks was ammo anyhow.

From what I understand, they stopped selling AR's at Dick's after Sandy Hook. They never restarted selling AR's at Dick's.

Their hunting and fishing chain of stores, Field & Stream, always sold AR's, until now.

If caring about American lives is publicity, then I hope all businesses chase publicity.

IMU, isn't funny how Darkside posts a bunch of Dude, I'm a rational gun owner, willing to negotiate threads, and then when a reasonable measure is taken, he gets all pissy? Rational my ass.

Yes. Not patronizing Dick's because of a very soft, very reasonable measure of not selling the types of guns and components prominently used in mass shootings only underscores the unreasonable response a Darkside or similar gun-owner would have if the actual government were to take similar steps.

Darkside said he was willing to consider controls on things like high capacity magazines...but all a retailer needs to do is say they won't personally carry them anymore, and "screw those guys."

Reasonable reaction.

The CEO even cited in his statement, the Field and Stream(AR-15) thing. Yeah, pragmatic analysis from a gun owner indeed.

What is the other option besides Amazon? They literally have destroyed the competition. Both MC Sports and The Sports Authority. I really liked The Sports Authority btw.

I buy at more specialized stores depending on what I want. All my running stuff comes from Dick Ponds or The Runner's Warehouse. Golf stuff comes from PGA Superstore. Gun stuff comes from Bass Pro or GAT Guns in Dundee.

You mean like the rental car industry in New York, where it is unlawful for rental car companies to discriminate against someone 18 years old or older? Or Drummond v. Walker, where a US District Court judge dismissed a claim of negligent entrustment against a rental car service for renting a vehicle to someone they knew to be under 21 years of age, with the court specifically stating that someone being under 21 is not evidence enough to indicate they are incompetent at operating a vehicle? Or the states with civil rights law making age a protected class with specific, narrow provisions for rental car services and financial institutions that makes age discrimination in certain respects lawful?

Yeah, what about it?

Most of my sporting good purchases do come from the Internet. I was just speaking to the "oh, impulse I need it today" stuff. Dicks is the only game in town.

I wondered about that, in that I don't know that they can just decide to not sell item x until a person is > y age thereby trying to supersede existing laws/statutes ... I imagine that a liquor store that decided they wouldn't sell to anyone under age 50 would open themselves up to potential litigation. That said, I don't think a reasonable person of any stripe would want this policy to be OK because then it's open season on discrimination on who a business serves or does not serve - which eventually will piss everyone off at some point, be it guns or gay cakes.

Yeah, I don't have encyclopedic knowledge of the statutes of the State of New York regarding rental cars, nor US District Court opinions regarding negligent entrustment law. Fuck me, right?

I'm not sure how effective a pick-up line that will be IRL.

Well, in NY they can have a surcharge, so I guess Dicks can just have a $15,000 surcharge there.

Cursory knowledge of our legal system should let you know that big corporations can basically do whatever the fuck they want when it comes to age regulations. And you still pretty much have to be 21 to rent a car unless there is a crazy set of circumstances. Good job on the googling though.

Right. This is private enterprise. Sad to see the AmmoSexuals attack capitalism in the name of their archaic gun beliefs.

I mean ... we're posting on an internet message board ... why would someone not use the internet to research their response before making it??

It'd be like having a discussion in a library but not bothering to grab some reference material to back up assertions made or to disprove same.

I like to think of this board more as of discussion in a bar, than a library.
