Yeah LL bean has only one store that sells some guns maybe and they're making a press release to change the age requirements.
Yeah. That kind of seals the deal.

Another win for the 'activity=accomplishment' crowd.

And apparently Customer interactions on social media = publicity seeking.

Moving forward, I would like corporations to announce changes to their policies regarding firearms sales via cryptic code. Stop taking using this tradegy as a marketing ploy.

How is it not? Theoretically there might be other reasons for a given interaction, but ultimately any public corporate communication is PR related in some form or fashion.

In general, a PR move is considered pretty meaningless. It's not just that it's known to the public.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/28/busi ... -sell.html

Quote:
Legal experts said they saw no likely challenges to Dick’s decision to stop selling assault-style rifles. But the decision to stop selling weapons to anyone under 21, however, could be tested in court.

Adam Winkler, a professor of constitutional law at the School of Law of the University of California, Los Angeles, said Dick’s could be challenged in lawsuits claiming a violation of laws that bar age discrimination. Although federal civil rights laws do not apply, some states, including New York, prohibit businesses from denying goods and services on the basis of age.

“Don’t be surprised if an aggressive attorney general of a gun-friendly state brings an age-discrimination claim against Dick’s,” Professor Winkler wrote in an email response to questions.

The company said that it believed its decision was in accordance with the law and that it was instituting the policy immediately.

Basically, as I see it, the Gun Lunatics see these corporations jumping on the Florida Shooting as a chance to announce gun control policies, boldly, to boost sales. I'm not quite sure if a reply to a single tweet is the best approach if that is your goal. I see it as more "being careful". We agree with this, but lets not be overbearing in our message as we have customers on both sides of the issue. They may have a moral compass or a financial compass. Not all of it, but part of it, IMO is about doing the right thing. It's a bit more nuanced...But the gun nuts have one channel, once message..."They are badmouthing guns just for big business!". Whatever.

Good for Dicks -

Gotta say I think folks who think they need to own 2,12,20 guns are gonna be s.o.l. soon. Guessing in my lifetime we will see handguns and any military style weapon illegal in the U.S. and rightfully so. Hunters weapons (granpops rifle, shotgun) will still be legal own.

I know gun owners will cry from the mountaintop “they will take my gun when...blah..blah”. All good, They won’t round up the guns, just gradually get them out of people’s hands as they get popped by the cops on various other charges. Prospect of a Felony conviction and jail term will make sane folks give up something they don’t need without force.

"Military style weapon" is beta speak for "I dont know what the fuck I'm talking about. That gun looks scary. How does it work?"

GRANPOPs huntin' raffle is likely a semi automatic 30-06 or a bolt action. If its semi auto, its the EXACT SAME FIRE RATE as an AR 15. One pull = one bullet.

Bolt action...obviously (or, maybe not) one needs to physically rack a new round in order to shoot.

What you really want to ban - and please, you should know this if you're going to contribute on an issue like this - is the amount of rounds a magazine can carry. Or, as im sure you call it in front of your martini sipping foodie friends "a clip".

I bet you think the AR in AR 15 stands for "assault rifle".

Typical dipshit gun owner / freak reply - Hopefully you shoot yourself in the head next time your cleaning you AR.

Lol.

who cleans their gun while its loaded? again, you need to at least pretend better at knowing what you're talking about. You'd be a shitty crisis actor.

The first lawsuit is now filed.
A 20 year old was denied the purchase of a rifle at Field and Stream and a Wal-Mart.

18-year old in Michigan filed a lawsuit against Dick's as well.

Really interesting part about the Michigan lawsuit is that Michigan law also prohibits advertising discriminatory practices. This could actually hurt, no clue why corporate attorneys weren't screaming for Dick's to not do this at all their locations.

Why?

My guess is the left understands that if the laws are that way then Dicks is going to be forced to sell to them, though from the sound of it in most states if they lose they can simply have a "surcharge" for those under 21.

Why is because they are seeing in a different way they also cannot discrinate when they think they have the high ground. I am not saying refusing to bake a gay cake is right or just.

As far as surcharges idk you can’t make a gay cake surcharge I am sure. Either way they will just have dad or uncle etc get the gun or bullets.

I don't know what you are saying here. If it's illegal to discriminate based on age, or sexual orientation, then you shouldn't.

pittmike wrote:

No, you can't do a surcharge based on sexual orientation because they are a federally protected class.

Why?

It also seems like 40+ may only be an issue with employment, whereas discrimination based on sexual orientation has been seemingly added on to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. I'm sure law fanatic JLN can fill us in on that.
