mlb.com says Padres interested in Jake but might be just a smoke screen.

They're thinking they should've took the money when it was offered.

At some point, some of these guys are going to get cheap enough to a point where it's worthwhile for a tanking team to surrender the pick because they can get a real big leaguer at a bargain, play him, and hope to be able to flip him when the imperative for the contenders is greater and the needs of those contenders are more defined.

It has to be the right guy though. Sox fans like to talk about Moustakas. I'm not a big fan of Davidson, but I'm not sure he isn't better offensively than Moustakas. I wouldn't really want Moustakas taking his at-bats away.

Quote:
Free agent third baseman Mike Moustakas agreed to a one-year deal with the Kansas City Royals on Thursday, sources familiar with the situation told Yahoo Sports. The deal includes a mutual second-year option.

The 29-year-old Moustakas, ranked seventh in Yahoo Sports’ Ultimate Free Agent Tracker, comes off a year in which he broke the Kansas City Royals’ single-season record for home runs with 38.
Moustakas’ deal has a $5.5 million salary in 2018 with a potential $2.2 million in performance bonuses, and the mutual option – unlikely to be exercised – is for $15 million and includes a $1 million buyout.

oof. He is playing for Todd Frazier money.

He will be some team's 3-4 option after missing out on the big guys next year.

Moose, if he continues to play well, will be a wanted piece at the trade deadline. Win-win for the Royals.

Alex Cobb and the O’s have agreed to a 4yr/$57M contract (if he passes the O’s physical)

How the hell does Cobb get this contract and all Lance Lynn could get is 1yr/$12M?!? It makes no sense.

It looks like the Cards are going to sign Greg Holland. 1yr/$14M.

If true that's a hell of a get for them.

That and stealing Ozuna for 4 garbage prospects, they have had a great offseason, I must admit.

So all the major free agents are now signed. Fiscal sanity has returned to MLB.

Holland will get $14M regardless of when he actually gets ready to pitch. That could bite the Cards in the ass if he chooses to dog it for a few months.

why would a team agree to that? If I am paying you then you get ready to pitch right now

The cards did good, they have a couple young guys to fill out the pen and close next year too.
