The guy did everything that was asked of him. He was the good soldier during Mac's departure, and didn't show loyalty to Mac when he and the station were playing hardball, he just put his time in with the fill-ins. He worked with Mitch's hand-picked long-snapper against his wishes for a partner. He worked with Mitch's hand-picked guy from Atlanta against his wishes for a partner to ratings success. He worked with Mitch's hand-picked guy from Kansas City against his wishes for a partner, to ratings dominance of the competition.

And in return for assisting the turn of the midday slot from laughable in the times of the long-snapper, to dominant up until last week, he gets pushed out of the daily lineup because Mitch's unbelievable push to get Goff over in the market failed horribly.

What I do not like about it is, everything pointed to Parkins knowing about this for a while.

Spiegel was blindsided just like Goff.

It was weird. Parkins invited the entire show crew and their wives to his house on Saturday. It's almost like Parkins knew and wanted to throw a good bye party without telling anybody it was a good bye party. Because Spiegel did a show on Monday. Goff didn't.

No. He wasn't that good and had a bad attitude until they got Parkins in here and after about 3 months he realized that his job was next to go if he didn't get in line.

It's not admirable that he eventually treated Parkins well once he finally got it through his head that Parkins was a key part of the future with or without him.

Now he can pretend he "becomes" the Beatles full time.

Its been posted that it was clearly a goodbye party and they all kinda knew but knowing the ways spiegs is about these things and how sensitive he is are they really gonna be joking about his firing and the show dinner for a whole week? Need to re-listen to Friday to see if they dropped any hints when talking about the dinner. I think everyone found out Monday on Sunday when I asked Goff about working with Spiegs vs Dan vs Sirius on IG live he didnt give a weird answer at all that indicated that he knew

The ratings disagree.

The way I see it, you're either rewarded for ratings success, or you're not. You shouldn't be objectively punished for ratings success, though. I call that "getting hosed".

I'm in the small group of people on the board who like Spiegel so I agree with this. If the ratings were bad, I could understand. I hope he at least goes back to Hit and Run.

Good Ratings <> Good show

Why didn't the ratings work with the last 3 partners?

I'll give Parkins almost all the credit for that.

If Spiegel had bought in right in the beginning with Parkins I'd be more willing to think he got screwed. The fact is that in the first week many predicted that his attitude towards him was going to get him replaced. It happened.

Ratings were pretty good for Spiegel & Goff, I believe. Not the most recent level of dominance, but they were solid for middays from what I recall. As for the Mannelly, that didn't work out because the guy couldn't talk, what else was Spiegel supposed to do?

Spiegel did not get hosed. He still has a job if he wants it. He's a talented guy, but that doesn't make him a legit talk show host. He had more than enough opportunities and it never materialized. Parkins showed with one shot, he does have it.

Spiegel will be fine as he is still a decent sports talker who hasn't alienated half the city. He'll land somewhere in market, unlike Goff.

Has he found a job since WMVP fired him? I know you are referencing him being released from The Game

He's not that good. Not really better than Goff at all.

Who cares.. lots of folks - better people than meatpants- have gotten a raw deal at work... too fucking bad.

Spiegs - bad guy. I’m glad he gone.

Now he has more time for his crap cover band.

Not being openly hostile is not grounds for permanent employment, though at the Score, that's probably the bar.

Bad in a different way. And like BRick keeps pointing out, he sort of did to Parkins at the beginning what Hood did to Telander, though for less reason and not in such an extreme manner. In any case, his pouting was unprofessional. And he pouted a lot.

Indeed. To me, Spiegel's issues aren't as irritating because they clearly all stem from his insecurity. A lot of his sensitivity and bitchiness and pouting is due to his low self-esteem. That's less irritating than someone who thinks they're going to save the world by talking about real. damn. stuff. and who rejects any constructive criticism, IMO.

But either way, it impacts the product and warrants a change if necessary.

Also, it should be pointed out that he took a lot of time off for the job he clearly liked more. He quit doing a baseball show on the weekends he supposedly was good at because of it. He had to call in sick multiple times from voice issues directly relating to his other job.

Now, he was "allowed" to do that but when you have a job like his those kind of things make you less likely to survive big shakeups.

The guy weathered multiple shakeups, and his performance was trending upwards through multiple partners, AND he just got fresh paper. A loyal radio veteran with ratings success should certainly weather a storm brought on by the declining ratings of others. So what he might be prickly and a bit of a diva about his singing? He had results where it mattered, until those things apparently stopped mattering.

Now I don't know what his deal is like, maybe he refused to work with Bernstein in middays, and they're doing him a solid instead of firing him. If we get wind of that, I will downgrade Spiegel's treatment from "hosed" to "kinda shitty, but you gotta do what you gotta do to get by". However, absent that, the guy had all the things you supposedly need to be a daypart mainstay, and they forced him out for Connor McDoink.

Spiegel's Twitter profile still has him hosting 9-1, and he hasn't uttered a peep since the news was reported/announced.

Guy is probably drowning in scotch.

Who wants to bet Spiegel gets back up to his fattest self as a result of this? He looked like he lost a good amount of weight in the more recent photos. I'm thinking booze and food will be his coping.
